Joseph King Trio

Joseph King Trio

BandRockEDM

Not too many bands will tell you their musical influences are Quentin Tarantino or Manu Chao. The Joseph King Trio embellishes the sound of rock with lounge/electronica elements which make for a powerful, unchartered experience. The music is sexy, insightful, dramatic, and very melodic.

Biography

Frontman Joseph King began his musical career while a Religious Studies major at Stanford University and went on to spend 6 years as the songwriter and frontman of Austin-based cult favorites Canvas.

In October of 2005, he relocated to New York City where he began writing down-tempo rock/pop with dub and electronica undercurrents. Teaming up with bassist/keyboardist Sanjay Jain, drummer Alex Wong, and guitarist Mo Bhansali, the band's sound is derived from a myriad of influences ranging from Manu Chao to Morphine, and Quentin Tarantino soundtracks to Buckley.

The combined quartet brings a powerful mix of heavily drawn influences that span not only multiple artists, but different ethnicities as well. Live, the energy in the room is nothing short of contagious; with heavily effected drums and an array of eerie homegrown electronica sounds. The end result is a sound that is introspective, sensual, melodic, and pallatable by music fans of all genres.

The band has been playing aggresive dates in New York, filling club capacities to the brim. After a successful run at South by Southwest 2007 and an opportunity to play at the venerated 930 Club in Washington DC, the band looks forward to the release of its debut Wicked Woman EP in summer 2007 featuring guest artists that include members of both David Byrne and Brazilian Girls.

Debut EP Belle Epoch has been produced by noted producer Chris Coady (Massive Attack, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Blonde Redhead).

Lyrics

What a Wicked Woman Wouldn't Do

Written By: Joseph King

i am just a baby in this world of witches
where sunrise lovers make costume switches
making promises in early hours
never minding her priestess powers

what a wicked woman wouldn't do
to claim a little piece of you
and now you hardly wonder why
you never really saw her cry

i am just a lover in this loveless city
where no one brushes lips or calls you pretty
pretty solemn for a celebration
she's well aware of my situation

what a wicked woman wouldn't do...

i am just a baby in this world of witches
where cocaine lovers make costume switches
i'm saying anything in these early hours
never minding her priestess powers

what a wicked woman wouldn't do...

Johnny

Written By: Joseph King

and now you're falling apart
coming completely undone
they've gone and broken your heart
in front of everyone
oh what fun, oh what fun

the games we're playing

johnny
you've got to know who you are
johnny
please man don't take it too far
you shouldn't stay where you are

and now it comes to an end
there's no one left here but me
before i leave you my friend
i was thinking that we
we should do a little more

the games we're playing

johnny
you've got to know who you are
you're a star, you're a star
johnny
please man don't take it too far
you shouldn't stay where you are

the games we're playing
we've played before
i'm just saying
you should lock the door, lock the door
lock the door

johnny...

Brother Brother

Written By: Joseph King

honestly speaking
this lifeboat is leaking
the refuge we're seeking
is soon to wash away

into the ocean
a circular motion
we're over the notion
it all will be okay

aren't you dying to hear what they'll say?

brother brother brother
don't bother to apologize
brother brother brother
just open your jaded eyes

american lover
you're soon to dscover
this world has another
plan for us today

our angels are bleeding
our wave is receding
the monsters we're feeding
aren't soon to go away

aren't you dying to hear what they say?

brother brother brother
don't bother to apologize
brother brother brother
we're through with your tired lies

does it kill you to know we can't stay?
this beauty will all fade away
i'm still dying to hear what they'll say

brother brother brother...
