Top Rolled Down

Early in the mornin
headin out for the day
grab a cup of waffle house coffee
and im on my way
to a job i dont care about
come 4o'clock im walkin out,
headin down to my
lady's house for the night
and were gonna dance
were gonna make some wild romance
were gonna cruise with the top rolled down

with the top rolled down
were gonna cruise all over town
stop at the drive in and make another round
head to the college where we used to sit and park in the dark
with the top rolled down

yeah with the top rolled down

friday night, headin down the highway
can't believe how things are goin my way
the one i love sittin next to me
cruisin down ole route 63
and oh how we danced
how we made that sweet romance
oh how we cruised with the top rolled down

four hundered horses pullin us along
on the radio her favorite song
can't believe this woman that i found
at the drive in with the top rolled down

with the top rolled down
man we cruised all over town
stopped at the drive in and made another round
headed to the college
where we used to sit and park in the dark
with the top rolled down

yeah, yeah,

with the top rolled down

this is now

I'm not old enough
to have seen vietnam
but my daddy told me stories
bout friends that he once had

how the country turned thier backs
on the men that were there
they were soldiers without a country
seemed like noone cared
but
that was then and this is now
something changed somewhere somehow can't keep livin in the past no use now in looking back

gotta keep traveling down the road
to a life that I've been told is waiting for me somewhere somehow that was then and this is now.

poverty was the standard
in my home town
yea the grass is always greener
on the otherside without a doubt
so I made a promise one i thought I'de never keep
some day this little one horse town
will have to do without me
but

that was then and this is now
something changed somewhere somehow can't keep livin in the past no use now in looking back

gotta keep traveling down the road
to a life that I've been told is waiting for me somewhere somehow that was then and this is now.

now sixteen years ago
is when we met for the first time
I stared into your eyes,
you put your hand in mine
now, two kids and ten years later
your living down the road
what happen to the life I had
I guess only God knows
but

that was then and this is now
something changed somewhere somehow can't keep livin in the past no use now in looking back

gotta keep traveling down the road
to a life that I've been told is waiting for me somewhere somehow that was then and this is now.

gotta keep traveling down the road
to a life that I've been told is waiting for me somewhere somehow that was then and this is now.
