Biography

Joseph Pfeifer is a singer/songwriter from San Diego, California who has been involved in the local music scene for the past 15 years. Growing up with a father who was a classical pianist, he was exposed to music at a very young age. Picking up bits and pieces on the piano, he also began playing guitar at the age of 13. At the age of 19, he found himself living abroad in the Austrian Alps doing some serious soul-searching. After a 42-hour train ride with a friend to Eastern Europe he began helping out an orphanage singing a few simple songs in Ukrainian. “I was out in the middle of nowhere, in some unknown city, singing a few songs with these totally abandoned children. And this one little kid immediately befriended me. He didn’t have a father or a mother, but for a brief moment in time, I was able to be there for him. I’ll never forget his name: Andree. It impacted my life, dramatically. I knew playing music was what I was born to do and loving people was what I was called to do.” Citing “The times they are a’ changin” by Bob Dylan and “Parachutes” by Coldplay as pivotal albums of inspiration, Joseph soon began to write his own material. After years of playing in bands, in 2010, he released his debut album “Good Company”, an eclectic project teeming with acoustic-driven sounds; rootsy, honest lyrics; and warm vocals that complete the story behind each song.

Lyrics

Freight Train

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer

Starin' like a blind bat
Walkin' like a stray cat
You're not who you used to be
When life was plain and simple
And your wife was at your table
Now she's packed her bags and she's headed East

You're talkin' much wiser
And you're thinkin' much clearer
But I can still see you ache
You're house is all but empty
and escrow's comin' quickly
And you're talkin' about the comin' change

Time, time just keeps on moving
Moving like a freight train
Why, you can't ask why
You'll just get swallowed in a hurricane
Accept what's come and gone
Cause the present's all we got

It'd be easy as pie
Just to give up and die
And wonder how it all went wrong
To drown there in your sorrows
And worry 'bout tomorrow
and let the past just you up

You're burnin' like a matchstick
Scattered like ashes
All over the darkest seas
This wasn't what you pictured two years ago
But sometimes things happen
And we've got no control

Time, time just keeps on moving
Moving like a freight train
Why, you can't ask why
You'll just get swallowed in a hurricane
Accept what's come and gone
Cause the present's all we got

Oh my friend I'll meet you
Somewhere in the middle
Somewhere between the desert and the sea

Good Company

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer

David slew the giant
With his sling
And his ten thousands he took down
With just one blow from his swing

He laid his eyes
Upon A bathing beauty
One split decision
Now he's the infamously fallen king

We're in good company
We're in good company
We're in good company
We're in good company

You're friends they whisper
And people talk
What happened to that man we knew
He's fallen so far off

Guilt and shame hang upon your name
And never go away
But like David get down on your knees
And turn the other way

We're in good company
We're in good company
We're in good company
We're in good company

Moses, Abram, Peter, John
Samson, Jonah, great men with heavy scars
Noah, Jacob, Judas, Paul
Adam ate the fruit but silence was his fall

We're in good company
We're in good company
We're in good company
We're in good company

You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone
You're not alone

Mysterious

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer

Mysterious you are
Unstoppable you'll always be
Mystical to some
Medicine for the weak

A presence in the stars
A raging bull, a lucky charm
You're hanging on a cross
Now you're hanging on someone else's wall

Who do you say he is?

Oblivious we are
Ignorant we'll always
We tore you from our halls
And tossed you out on the streets

Popular to some
An expletive come off my tongue
Reached for in the dark
In some wars you're what's fought for
In some places, you've got many faces

Who do you say he is

What's real what's make believe
Not just the things we choose to see
We're in a show, what's your role
Play your part

What's truth, what's lies
What's wrong, what's right
What's fact, not fiction
What's concrete evidence
What's conviction, not emotion
Are you sure there's nothin' missin'
Is there a ghost upstairs
Or could there be someone listening

What's real what's make believe
Not just the things we choose to see
We're in a show, what's your role
Play your part
'Til your final curtain call

Don't Push Me Away

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer

Every day I see your face
I hear your heart racing across space
Racing across space

I know you're hurtin' and feelin' helpless
Your lonely nights are filled with questions
Can't even make it through a day

But don't, don't don't push me away
I can see that your heart is breakin'
Into a million pieces

An avalanche of troubles fall
You do your best to carry them all, but oh
A heavy snow will swallow you whole

You're tryin' to find a cure for the pain
But no medicine could ever take the place
Of what you need the most
What you need the most

Don't, don't don't push me away
I can see that your heart is breakin'
Into a million pieces

The more you push
The more you'll break
We weren't meant to waste away
Let me give you a hand, maybe two
Don't push away the very thing that just might save you

Don't, don't don't push me away
I can see that your heart is breakin'
Into a million pieces
Tonight don't close your eyes
You're gonna make it through this
I'll find a way
Just don't push me away

My Heart Is Yours

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer

I loved you from the start
And I'll love you to the end
Rich or poor
My heart is yours

With a love greater than feeling
We'll persevere and we'll endure
Through the wilderness and valleys that rain
My heart is yours

I can't imagine life without you
You're my companion my best friend
With every step my heart is yours

For the rest of my days
Oh I promise you this
Till we reach the shores of heaven I'll sing
My heart is yours

My love has come
At last she's come
My love is finally here
The rain that was has come and gone
My love she has appeared

My love is finally here

You're so beautiful it's staggering
I can hardly breathe
From the first time I laid eyes on you I knew
My heart was yours.

Highway 36

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer

Over the hills of old highway 36
I saw another side of you
Those windy back roads
I thought would lead to nowhere
But they led me straight to you

Walking through the creek of misty fern canyon
The rain dripped from my head down to my feet
I looked up and saw those tall gorgeous redwoods
Watching over me

I've never known a love
Quite like this before
You lift me right out of the darkness
You're a painting of a house
On a hill in the country
You're all lit up from the sun beating down

Climbin' to the top of Wedding Rock
You couldn't miss it
The Pacific was all I could see
The softly setting sun it left me
With a rainbow of colors
I could've sworn it was
The 8th wonder of the world

I've never known a love
Quite like this before
You lift me right out of the darkness
You're a painting of a house
On a hill in the country
You're all lit up from the sun beating down

Tell me how does somethin'
Come from nothin'
And that we're all just random chance
Only happenstance
One big accident

I've never known a love
Quite like this before
You lift me right out of the darkness
You're a painting of a house
On a hill in the country
You're all lit up from the sun beating down

Chasing Me

Written By: Joseph Pfeifer and Jimmy Robeson

My heart once was troubled
As if blown by the wind
And tossed by the sea
I was searching for love
In all the wrong places
I could not see

Lord, Your amazing love is chasing me
Surely, Your goodness and mercy shall follow me
And in Your house will I dwell all my days
Forever and ever, Amen

Like a lowly beggar
All alone on the street
You took me in
No longer a stranger, but a son
You were the only one
You rescued me

Lord, Your amazing love is chasing me
Surely, Your goodness and mercy shall follow me
And in Your house will I dwell all my days
Forever and ever, Amen
