"Josh arnold - Fire in the Sun"

Josh Arnold is a solo folk/soft rock freak. No no, let's just say a musical genius. The end. Actually, I better write a bit more....

Track one, "Soft Light", is the perfect introduction to the world of Josh Arnold, with an upbeat, uncomplicated sensibility to it. I really respect someone who can immediately evoke such interest, and that feeling is pretty hard to come by these days, particularly in a genre of music that I must admit, I don't often listen to.

I don't feel that it's worth dissecting each song, because it would be hard for me to select which ones to write about and which to leave out, not to mention I could write forever and a day about any number of the songs on this record. The songwriting prowess is truly magnificent, and a laid-back vocal performance is as calming as it is breath-taking.

It's clear that Josh is a very spiritual and soulful man when you take a look at his song titles, including "Courage", "Losing Sunshine", "Garden of Life" and "Flower Wild in Seed". The lyrics don't let him down either, with lines such as "What is the distance between you and I? We are one being, one rhythm of life, and we are defined by something much more beautiful" showing the truly poetic nature of the man.

There's not a moment on this record where I'm anything less than enchanted by "Fire in the Sun". I'll stop short of saying this record goes into the wank bank, but it's damn good, thats for sure. I can imagine sitting out on a front porch in the summer with friends, sipping on a cool drink, watching the sunset. Cliche perhaps, but thats the impression that I get. Give me a banjo and stick a piece of straw between my teeth and I'm as relaxed as can be, ready to soak up the urban/country music on offer.
