Bio
Josh Kalmus’ distinctive finger picking style & rustic voice bring a refreshing sound back from an long lost blues era. His unique blues sound is a blend of delta and country blues reminiscent of the style played in early juke joints. He is primarily influenced by pre-1940s blues artists such as Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Reverend Gary Davis, Willie Brown and Blind Lemon Jefferson.
Josh has shared billing with Chicago artists Michael McDermott and Harmonic Hinds, and has played at venue's like Schuba’s and The Hideout in Chicago. In 2004, Josh won the “Best of Chicago Open Mic” sponsored by The Crutch and Social Entertainment.
Most recently, Josh's performance and original song "Pauline" were featured during a segment filmed for Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels show highlighting restaurants of Chicago. The show aired January 13 & 14, 2006 on the Food Network.
