"Josh McCann Band"

12/13/07 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Josh McCann Band is a slightly heavier take on the classic rock 'n' roll of Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones with a strong frontman who writes vivid relationship songs and delivers them in a raspy voice. The JMB recorded the 12-song "Live Loud" at Mr. Small's with a raw feel that makes it sound as if it was recorded live. Hightlights include "She's Airborne", about a love for a waitress who just wants to flee, and "My Only Thrill," a jealous love song full of passion and grit. You gotta love these closing lyrics that seem to hark back to the Spector era: "Out of nowhere her boyfriend came and walked in/ and asked her 'where you been?'/She told him that she'd found someone/ and that they were done/ We went running to my car/ started driving really far/ Ever since then she's been with me/ When I wake up she's the first thing I see."

"Live Loud" is not only a rocking album, but also a way of life for Josh McCann. McCann is a homegrown music talent that is garnering a lot of attention for a sound that contains influences of Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams. "Live Loud" boast a classic rock sound that features a three-guitar assault that will have you clapping your hands and tapping your feet. Songs like "She's Airborne" and "My Only Thrill" are love songs with catchy sing-along choruses. McCanns tunes stay in your head long after the music fades away. "Her Number One" and "Slow Dance" are loaded with heavy doses of Tom Petty's signature guitar sound that convey an honest, straightforward approach found in the music. After listening to this talented singer-songwriter, it becomes crystal clear that he has a passion for his craft. McCann has determination and talent to place him on the road to road success. McCann has been honing his skills through an abundance of live performances in small clubs throughout the area. If you are getting bored with much of the sugar coated and generic sounding music by many new performers nowadays, turn yourself on to "Live Loud" and enjoy a refreshing straight-from-the-heart rock that once ruled the music scene some thirty years ago. For a band that's been together for a little over a year and a half, they sound as if they've been doing this a lifetime.
