RISING STAR

JOSHUA RANVILLE
Joshua Ranville is one more natural born performer
from Winnipeg. He was raised in Transcona where
he completed a French public school education. He
was enrolled in every music class available to his
age group since grade 6, which was when his career
as a musician began. Learning how to play classical
guitar at École Regent Park (E.R.P.) inspired him to
pick up bass guitar to play in the jazz band, which
rehearsed during lunch hours.
When he was to make the transfer from middle
school to high school at College Pierre-Elliott-
Trudeau (C.P.E.T.) he took private euphonium les-
sons with Stuart Smith so he could join the concert
band, because he had to be enrolled in the concert
band in order to play in the C.P.E.T. Jazz Ensem-
bles. In the next year when it was available to him,
he enrolled in the Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz. All
while playing in the local rock band, “The Experi-
ences” with friends from school. After the end of his
role in the band, he has pursued a solo music career
by recording and promoting is own original material.
He travels to numerous northern communities all
over Canada to broaden his exposure. His travels
have also landed him speaking and mentoring gigs
where he speaks to aboriginal youth about positive
attitudes and chasing dreams and goals.
His theatre career was an
early start as well in 1998
when he played a young
residential school student
in the Manitoba Theatre
for Young People pro-
duction, The Remem-
berer. His most recent
theatre appearances in-
clude the Cranked tour
and the World Premiere
of Rich in 2008 with
M.T.Y.P.
