Tom Robinson - BBC 6 Music
Introduced to us last year with the release of his Your Beauty EP, Joshua Luke Smith's sound is one that travels across contemporary rap and acoustic pop-soul, producing a world-weary, heartfelt, relatable brand of penmanship. The man from Bath's latest release is a visual for "Carry Me", produced and directed by James Green. "Carry Me" is a song on homecoming, as Joshua explained to us via email: "Home is an identity without illusion, without the confusion of trying to be someone we are not. We all get distracted, disappointed, and at times disillusioned with who we are and where we're at but there's hope in knowing you can change direction. There's hope in knowing you can always return home." Watch the video exclusively above. - Complex
Joshua Luke Smith's latest single "Carry Me" is a personal jam that focuses on Smith's relationship with his mother and his struggle with finding an identity as he grows older. "Carry Me" uses elements of R&B, gospel, and hip-hop in a minimal format, and with lines like, "Cause beneath the peer pressure and drunken nights out, mama I just want to impress you and make you proud," "Carry Me" is able to make itself instantly relatable to those of us that have gone through, or are currently going through the confusing teenage/young adult years. The single also makes great usage of live instrumentation as well as the addition of 808 drum programming in the beginning of the song. Overall, its Smith's distinctive voice and the songs arrangement that sets it apart. Smith's low tenor, UK accent, and unorthodox flow accompanied by a gripping story told throughout the singles two verses, gives this track an ample amount of replay value. - BAEBLE MUSIC

Bio
Joshua Luke Smith describes himself as being 'not a rapper, but a poet'. Emerging as a new voice in the hip hop world, the 22 year old's EP Between The Saddle & The Ground secured a top ten position in the international iTunes hip hop/rap charts only hours after being released. As a craftsman lyricist and a captivating song writer, it is no wonder that his independently produced music recorded in
the living room of his rented home has been well received.
The EP has been called 'passionate, powerful and purposeful'. It seems to be Smith's desire to write music that does not simply provide his audience with a good tune or playful lyrics but that has words that speak to the heart and a passion that draws out dreams, restores hope and releases destiny!
Having made an impact with his spoken word piece "The Girl in Chains" (a powerful visual performance poem highlighting the horrors within the world of human trafficking) Joshua Luke Smith is gaining momentum in becoming an important voice at a very young age.
Partnered with his wife and fellow songwriter, Kara Ann Marie, Joshua Luke Smith established Orphan No More earlier this year as an independent record label providing the platform to release his own music and that of others in the near future!
With plans of touring and new releases in the coming months, Joshua Luke Smith is an artist not be overlooked.
