Biography

Joshua Armstrong is a 22-year-old singer and songwriter who recently moved to Nashville, Tenn., from Sacramento, Calif., where he'd been studying psychology at Sacramento State University. With only a year left before earning his degree, he decided in January 2008 that time was of the essence to pursue music, so he left all his friends and family behind and started over in a completely new city.

Thus was born Joshua's first full-length album, which he's appropriately titled "Starting Over" that is scheduled for release in November 2008. It's a project that he's spent more than two years writing and recording with various producers. While it was a long and tedious journey, he matured throughout the process and hopes listeners agree it was worth the effort. The album is contemporary pop/rock and influenced by artists such as Third Eye Blind, Matchbox Twenty, and The Fray.

Joshua started playing the guitar at age 9 in his hometown of Salinas, Calif. (near Monterey). At about age 16, he started experimenting with songwriting and performing sporadically all while exploring various genres.

Besides guitar and some piano lessons while growing up, Joshua spent plenty of time skateboarding, snowboarding, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and even participating in a few junior rodeos. Snowboarding and junior rodeo resulted in a couple broken arms -- something that now must be avoided as a musician.

Currently, Joshua and his band are gearing up to take "Starting Over" on the road and is scheduling dates in the midwest and southeastern United States. At the same time, Joshua continues to build his songwriting portfolio both by himself and by co-writing with and for other artists.

I'm gonna hit the open road
Pack my bags and discover the unknown
I need to prove myself
And make it on my own
I'm putting myself on the line
Give it my all this time

Sometimes I fall face first on the ground
Sometimes I crawl
Sometimes my life gets turned all upside down
Sometimes the mountain seems too tall
I'm starting over
Startin' over today

Through the dark I'll persevere
By remembering the ones that I hold dear
My ambition guides my way
I can feel the wind on my back
I'm gonna put myself on the line
Give it my all this time

Sometimes I fall face first on the ground
Sometimes I crawl
Sometimes my life gets turned all upside down
Sometimes the mountain seems too tall
I'm starting over
Startin' over today

All these decisions clouding my mind
You try to stop me, but I’m the stubborn kind
I need danger, risk and a passionate life
So I'm leavin’
Leavin' this town behind

I'm starting over
Startin' over today
Sometimes I fall face first on the ground
Sometimes I crawl
Sometimes my life gets turned all upside down
Sometimes the mountain seems too tall
I'm starting over
leavin' this town behind
I'm starting over
I can feel the wind on my back

Here's a chance to try again
Here's a chance to do it over
I'm starting over today
I'm starting over
I'm starting over
Today

You're A Part Of Me

I’ve been away
Because of my pride
Your love was too good for me
I’ve been a fool for far too long
Running from the pain inside of me

I’m standing here
I’m coming clean
With my hands on my face
I’m on my knees
Wanna hold your hand
Touch your skin
Feel the warmth of your fingertips
I will not go
I will not leave
This is all of me
You’re a part of me
You’re a part of me

You haunted my dreams
You blessed my life
Even while I was gone
Your love followed me
I’ve finally found the strength
To pack my pride away

I’m standing here
I’m coming clean
With my hands on my face
I’m on my knees
Wanna hold your hand
Touch your skin
Feel the warmth of your fingertips
I will not go
I will not leave
This is all of me
You’re a part of me
You’re a part of me

Look into my eyes
Hear the words from my soul
I'm giving you everything
I'm giving you all of me
Look into my eyes
Hear the words from my soul
I'm giving you everything

I’m standing here
I’m coming clean
With my hands on my face
I’m on my knees wanna hold your hand
Touch your skin
Feel the warmth of your fingertips
I will not go
I will not leave
This is all of me
You’re a part of me

I’m standing here
I’m coming clean
With my hands on my face
I’m on my knees
Wanna hold your hand
Touch your skin
Feel the warmth of your fingertips
I will not go
I will not leave
This is all of me
You’re a part of me
You’re a part of me

Look into my eyes
Hear the words from my soul
Look into my eyes
Hear the words from my soul

Green Eyes

Your body can’t stand to lose an ounce
The paint on your face can’t hide the fear
Smile, and just get over it
Is that what I should do?

Green eyes are telling me lies
You're using me to survive
Green eyes are telling me lies
And I can’t help but listen

Tomorrow won’t be better
The future begins right here
Get yourself together
Let me wipe away your tears

Green eyes are telling me lies
You're using me to survive
Green eyes are telling me lies
And I can’t help but listen

The lines on the table
They won’t reel you in
The names in your phone
They are not your friends
When ambition leads to frustration
Will you then be sure
Pack your bags and run away
Carry it off to deal with another day
You strive to be a model of the glossiest kind
But on the catwalk of our lives
You will never find
The beauty that’s inside of you
Under white flashing lights

Green eyes, look to the sky
Green eyes, look to the sky
Green eyes, look to the sky
Look to the sky
Look to the sky
Look to the sky
Green eyes
Oh green eyes
Look to the sky

To Your Rescue

Apathetic to a fault,
You moved away
To find yourself
On the way
you fell inside,
A pit of lust and lies
Call the number you can’t forget
I’ll ignore all regrets
And I’ll bring a ladder to pull you out
Enter light, dismiss doubt

I’ll come running
I’ll never be too far away
I’ll love you more than you could ever know
I'll ask for nothing
I’ll come running
To your rescue
Oh, oh, oh
To your rescue
Oh, oh, oh

Our past was cursed by ambivalence
Now decisions I make are deliberate
I’ve walked the last four years alone
Soon you’ll see how much I’ve grown
And I’ll keep this pace
Through heat and storm

I’ll come running
I’ll never be too far away
I’ll love you more than you could ever know
I'll ask for nothing
I’ll come running
To your rescue

When the darkness leaves your eyes
You’ll find that I never left your side
When I hold your hand
I can empathize
Cause we both crossed the great divide
No longer hopeless,
Savor purpose

I’ll come running
I’ll never be too far away
I’ll love you more than you could ever know
I'll ask for nothing
I’ll come running
To your rescue
To your rescue
Oh, oh, oh
To your rescue

In Love

I don’t want to give up now
I think I found something this time
I don’t want to turn back now
I think I found the right way

Tonight, tonight’s the night
I’m in love, I’m in love
Tonight, tonight’s the night
I’m in love, I’m in love

If tomorrow proves you’re a fantasy
Release me from this memory
Now I can’t be circumspect
Life’s too short for potential regrets

Tonight, tonight’s the night
I’m in love, I’m in love
Tonight, tonight’s the night
I’m in love, I’m in love
Tonight, tonight’s the night

I’m afraid of failin’
I’m afraid of messin’ up
If I don’t take this chance
What’s the point in livin’
What’s the point in dyin’
If I don’t take this chance
What’s the use in givin’
What’s the use in tryin’
If I don’t take this chance

Tonight, tonight’s the night
Tonight, tonight’s the night
I’m in love, I’m in love
Tonight, tonight’s the night
I’m in love, I’m in love
Tonight, tonight’s the night

You're Not The One

I’ll miss you
I’ll miss your company
It’s going to be hard
To see you with someone other than me
I looked for ways
To make us work
But I know deep inside
This will only hurt

Oh oh please see
You’re not the one for me
Oh oh please see
We're not meant to be

I tried to change
I hoped to reshape you
And it breaks my heart
To repeat this goodbye
I'll try to be kind
But this message is clear
I’m gonna speak my mind
And face my fear

Oh oh please see
You’re not the one for me
Oh oh please see
We're not meant to be

Get yourself together
Get yourself together
We will learn to live
Without each other
Read all the pages
Not just the cover
There's a story inside
Waiting to be discovered

Oh oh please see
You’re not the one for me
Oh oh please see
We're not meant to be
Oh oh please see
Oh Oh
You’re not the one for me
Oh oh please see
We're not meant to be
Oh oh please see

Take Me Down

Trouble bound
We hit the town
And I’ll never forget that sound
Tonight I fell asleep at the wheel
I woke up just in time with chills
Darting down my spine

Take me down, take me down
And my feet will follow
Wherever my heart goes
I’ll come around I’ll come around
Like I always
I’ll get my feet on the ground
I’ll get my feet on the ground

Mess around
We messed around
But as empty as we were
There’s was no love to be found
So I take the pills to help me sleep
Wake up just in time with nightmares
Tugging at my sheets

Take me down, take me down
And my feet will follow
Wherever my heart goes
I’ll come around I’ll come around
Like I always
I’ll get my feet on the ground
I’ll get my feet on the ground

Let me drink you away
Let me drink you away
The harder I try
The more that I seem to pay
I don’t want to be like this
My bodies aching
My pulse is racing

Take me down take me down
And my feet will follow
Wherever my heart goes
I’ll come around
I’ll come around
Like I always
I'll get my feet on the ground
Take me down take me down
And my feet will follow
Wherever my heart goes
I’ll come around
I’ll come around
Like I always
I’ll get my feet on the ground
I’ll get my feet on the ground
I’ll get my feet on the ground
