"Joshua Caole sheds light on his Moon Palace of glittering delights (David Owens)"

"...the same soul laid bare splendour and lived-in charm of dishevelled US troubadour Ryan Adams.
The album immerses itself in songwriting that swoops a vertiginous line between the peaks and troughs of fractured introspection and heart-embroidered redemption. Think Elliot Smith, Gram Parsons and Bright Eyes for suitably impressive reference points." - Wales Online

"Review of Joshua Caole - ‘Moon Palace’ (David Spencer)"

“His pained but warm vocal brings us cheeky little vignettes of life, with references to girls next door and dresses falling on bedroom floors [...] He is reflective, moody and introspective and tracks like Please To Have You, Sweet Sweet Eyes instantly display his love of the likes of Ryan Adams with catchy acoustic songs that work their way into your conscience instantly.” - Music News

"Joshua Caole - Moon Palace"

"One of the greatest discoveries in the music scene in 2012" - Rootstime, Belgium

"Live: James Apollo @ The Witchwood, Ashton. 14/02/11"

Tonight Caloe plays solely with an acoustic guitar and harmonica; this stripped back approach adds emphasis to a lyrical sharpness integral to each song. - Northern Noise

"Swn 2011 My Top Eight Picks"

“Joshua Caole is Wales’ answer to Ryan Adams, but with a gentler, more mournful sound. [...] his brooding brand of bluegrass details love, loss and wisdom beyond his youthful years, delivered with feeling and gorgeous guitar playing.” - The Chocolate Takeaway

"Swn Festival: my highlights"

"Joshua Caole. Confession time: many moons ago I was told to listen and watch Joshua by a friend in Cardiff. Two years later, and I made sure I do on the quiet Sunday afternoon at 10 Feet Tall. The troubadour from the Forest of Dean was sitting before a healthy crowd, he had a bleeding hand as he thrashed the guitar, his voice even and calm. It made for a dramatic spectacle, and I was left wanting more." - BBC Wales Blog - Bethan Elfyn

"Swn Day 4"

"Despite ripping his trousers and cutting his strum finger, Joshua Caole played a heart-warming set. Sounding similar to Damien Rice, or a mellower John Mayer, Joshua had the crowd sat on the floor like children around a campfire. Joshua played acoustic guitar and the harmonica in a brilliant performance that left people with a gentle glow inside. We were all mesmerised by his flame, for the guitar strings became his heart strings of which he played out the words of his soul. His voice was reminiscent of old country folk song and people swayed slowly to his soft voice. He had to admit defeat in the end however, as his cut finger wasn’t impressed with the hard strumming it was being put under, and so Joshua finished early to a round of applause." - Plastik Magazine

"Joshua Caole – Slow Hearts EP"

“Rich in the sounds of Americana, and sharing its melancholy beauty, Caole’s Slow Hearts EP is one lushly instrumented gift of a release. The brushed drums, soothed backing vocals and tightly picked guitars of Wish You Were Where sets the tone with Caole coming across somewhere between Gram Parsons and Ryan Adams.” - The Miniature Music Press

"i’ll put your name inside a heart: the joshua caole interview"

“a voice that would make you melt” - Last Year’s Girl

"Joshua Caole – ‘Slow Hearts’ EP"

“‘Slow Hearts’ is a lush ode to Americana, with its four tracks overflowing with warm, Nashville-esque sounds” - Shout4Music

Bio

Joshua’s music evokes the American songwriting greats like Gram Parsons yet simultaneously tiptoes along the lines of alt rock, post punk and folkier climbs. What binds these disparate influences together and makes Caole’s music distinctive is his rough-with-the-smooth combination of coarse, vocals with clean, freewheeling guitar parts.

Combining the commanding songwriting of Elliot Smith with the vocal fragility of Bright Eyes; tales of misspent nights and love not quite won made his 2012 debut album Moon Palace an impressive, impassioned collection of songs. Released on Bullo Pill Recordings, produced by Llion Robertson (Eugene Francis Jr, Gentle Good), much of the material accumulated during the long hours spent constantly touring across 2011. Caole has played throughout the UK and Europe supporting such superb acts as Smoke Fairies, Sarabeth Tucek, Anais Mitchell, Richmond Fontaine and Laura Gibson and appeared at Lounge on the Farm, Apple Cart and Swn festivals.

Joshua has been championed on BBC Radio Wales by Adam Walton and Bethan Elfyn, with regular airplay on BBC 6 Music also as Tom Robinson is also a fan. Joshua’s Songs from the Shed Session showcases the fragility of his performance and won him new audiences worldwide.
