"First up is opener Josh Garcia. Young and unassuming, he nevertheless commands the mic and owns the room from the moment he begins to play. And we are stunned by what we hear. Moody and deep chocolaty sounds ring from his guitar to swirl around his voice and there is never a moment of hesitation or uncertainty. Absolute technical precision marries with haunting soulful artistic intention too complex for his tender years. We are reminded of Bob Dylan on his good days, and the similarities don't end with his voice.
Garcia has managed to somehow tap into the anxieties and political sensibilities of the late sixties with absolute authenticity and parlay them into a cogent response to our own uncertain times. His focus and passion result in an intensity at odds with his unimposing appearance. When Milazzo finally joins him on stage to segue into the headliner act, there is a camaraderie and easy understanding that pervades the scene as the two perform the finale to Garcia’s act.
The audience, at first stunned into silence, quickly get into the game as the energy picks up and the pair pound out an acoustic tornado to whirl us to the end of the set. When Garcia finally leaves the stage his departure is as low-key as was his entrance, he smiling almost bashfully, though with evident and well deserved pleasure from his performance and its reception."

Bio
Joshua Garcia is a rising folk-singer-songwriter whose writing and performance style draws upon the influences of his musical heroes Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Neil Young. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Joshua eventually made his way to New York by way of Providence, RI. In just a few short months, Joshua has already begun stirring up some noise around the East Village and Brooklyn scenes, finishing in the top-10 out of 200 at the Waltz-Astoria Ultimate Singer-Songwriter Competition and playing such venues as The Bitter End and Rockwood Music Hall.
Joshua recently released his first split-single, featuring the tracks "Pockets Full O' Gold" and "Bruises (Love Ballad #17). A firm believer in the power of song and the album as an artistic format, Joshua will be recording his debut album at the Columbus Theatre in Providence, RI (a renovated and revival space set up by Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky of the Low Anthem) this December, slated to be released at the beginning of 2015.
Between now and then, Joshua will be planning and writing songs for his next release, as well as featuring on the Jimmy Lloyd Songwriter Showcase (NBC, Amazon Instant) at the Gibson Showroom this November.
Joshua thanks you for stopping by, and as he often tells his audiences: "If you do your best to listen; I'll do my best to remember the words!"
