"Joshua T - Heart Beating"

Joshua T‘s new track Heart Beating is the product of a unique collaboration with Blank Tape‘s Cesar Rodrigues and the Berlin-based, Melbourne-born songwriter and musical enigma. Heart Beating is a tactile, heaving electronic anthem; a fearless blend of pulsating and sampled beats, low-res bleeps and hand claps that groove in tandem with its epic delivery of journeying to the brink of life, and back again.

The three and a half minute fist-pumping catchcry, which draws upon 90s hip hop, 80s new wave, and 8bit videogame synths through a prism of hazy indie nostalgia, is redolent of Joshua T’s signature approach: genre-defying, hookladen and pop-leaning.

After JT’s initial tracking of vocal layers in friends’ loungerooms and vintage synths in bedrooms, the song lay dormant on his harddrive and Cesar Rodrigues, being a fan of his work for a long time encouraged him to bring this one out of the shadows. Together they polished the rough edges in the newly established Blank Tape studio in Northcote, producing the track into its final swirling lush mix.

Joshua T is currently working on new material for his debut album with Oscar Dawson and Joe Franklin (Dukes Of Windsor/Planet Love Sound) at the production helm. The trio are currently based in Berlin and the highly anticipated results will be hitting Australian shores early in 2012.

"Joshua T - Heart Beating"

Berlin based Aussie Joshua T’s new track ‘Hart Beating’ seems to draw the line between Chillwave and The Postal Service.

Layered with the kind of buzzing toytown-synth organ sounds so favoured by The Postal Service, ‘Hart Beating’ eschews those glitchy rhythms for the reverb washed ‘80’s-esque backing of Chillwave with roomy claps and distant melodies. Joshua T keeps the vocals simple and emotive, which blends perfectly with the music, giving the whole track a warm, relaxed vibe. ‘Heart Beating’ definitely presents an interesting combination of styles that single out Joshua T as a name to keep an eye on. - Electronic Rumours

Bio

Berlin-based, Melbourne electroindiepop artist Joshua T paints technicolor sheets of beat driven kaleidoscopic bliss which transform his nostalgia and aching melancholia into sun-drenched anthems of jubilation.

Recently, JT toured Iceland and featured at the Reykjavik Melodica Festival 2011 and is now halfway through completion of his debut album in the confines of his home studio in Berlin with The Todd Brothers (Oscar Dawson and Joe Franklin – Dukes of Windsor/Planet Love Sound) taking mixing/co-production.

Joshua T’s explosive live show has been likened to the alluring energy and looping of Tune-Yards as he weaves a vivid tapestry of sound, employing his loop pedal and layering his guitar, vocals and beatboxing. The sound is somewhat reminiscent of his influences, “the best bits” as one fan described, LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, Twin Shadow & Fever Ray.
