Ce track est un snippet de ce que nous réserve J.O et son équipe pour le prochain effort du monsieur dont le titre, "Corrupted World Solution" avait été annoncé lors de notre interview le mois dernier. Toujours avec Prince aux commandes du beat, Jo prend ici le temps de mettre "les points sur les i" avec cet exercice de style qui ne devrait laisser personne indifférent et aussi donner le ton de ce que sera le déjà très attendu "CWS".
Les plus alertes auront remarqué qu’il y a une différence frappante entre l’artwork de la track et l’artwork final affiché ici et sur le site de The Hurry Up studio right ? Well celui-ci s’inscrit dans la ligné des artworks recherchés et tout en symbolique sortants tout droit du cerveau génial et torturé du D.A du groupe. When Samir Ayachi hit me up to tell me about the #MTL0505 showcase starring J.O. The Corrupted, I knew I had to do this interview person. J.O. The Corrupted is a dedicated artist with a wide palette of influences that embodies the diversity of our city. His dual identity is part of his music that revolves around human corruption. His new EP “Distant Visions” is one of a few really good Montréal-grown independent solo projects so far this year. He’ll be joining Leila Bogah, Big Dreams, Green Hypnotic & Montrilla for #MTL0505, a unique experience focusing on quality sounds & vibes. Elementality is a proud sponsor of the event and our editor Gabacho (Gab Aubry) sat down at his manager Sanders’ crib (shout out for the photo!) with promoter Samir Ayachi and their partner Malik and they had a great Q&A session on what it is to be on a 24-7 music grind while keeping the inspiration flowing.
Gab: Tell us a little about your name?
J.O.: There’s something that led me to that. There’s something in life you can’t stay away from, and that’s corruption. So it’s like a germ that’s in your body, you just can’t get rid of it. You just gotta live with it. Everybody relates to that. It’s since I was young, I always had a good and a bad side. So it really represented me.
Gab: I know the spiritual side is really important in your music, how does that inspire you?
J.O.: Even if you’re aware that you’re not doing the right thing, usually you’re conscious. And for me spirituality is being conscious about what life is. It’s the reality of everybody and everybody relates to that.
Gab: So you are conscious, you are a rapper…Are you a conscious rapper?
J.O.: Nope. I am not a conscious rapper. I’m a human being. You can’t define me as something.
Gab: We’re also here with JO’s concert promoter Samir Ayachi, tell us what you’re doing with this project?
Samir: We’re working on an event called #MTL0505, and we’re gathering some of the most exciting up and coming acts from the city. We want to bring brighter exposure to local acts. Montreal isn’t considered a hip hop city, but there there’s a great foundation here. We can define Hip Hop in Montreal if we want.
Gab: You also have other artists on the bill.
Samir: We have Big Dreams, an English rap group, as well as Green Hypnotic, from Alaiz crew in Laval, he’s a great guy, he’s also performing. We’ve also got Leila, she’s got a new fresh breath of music. She’s got her own style which is great. Those are the types of artists we are working with, they share our vision. They are on
Gab: You’re also bringing your producer Prince and a whole band?
Samir: Shout outs to prince, he can’t make it because he’s in Paris on a business trip.
J.O.: We still have the live band though, we’ve got five musicians with me as a performer. We’ve got a bassist, dude who plays a guitar, piano, drummer and congas, bringing a different vibe.
Gab: Which was also your set up for the recording of your latest E.P. “Distant Visions”, right?
J.O.: There wasn’t a live band, but the bass lines were performed by PRINCE.When I met PRINC\, I met him as a bassist, not as a producer. He brought his vibe, so I really liked it. It was the first time he was really tight with hip-hop. He understood my vibe from the beginning so I knew he could make it happen.
Gab: What sets you apart from other artists in Montréal?
J.O.: It’s the understanding that it’s not about being an artist, it’s about bringing something. It’s a full time job. Many artists aren’t full time, they don’t take it that seriously. Even when I’m at work, my work is Hip-Hop, my work is music.
Gab: What was the idea behind “Distant Visions”?
J.O.: It was all about visions. When I was writing the songs there was a lot of imagery. I projected myself through my ideas. It’s a six-track EP. I connect more with the sound. I need someone who connects with me. That’s what happens with people like Samir, who understands my inner vision. Visually, I need someone who connects with me, people like Samir who understand my inner vision.
Samir: Everything has to be synchronized. If everything is fluid, then the product is more natural. We try to figure out what the song relates to in a visual way. We just create.
Gab: The recording is definitely one way of making your mark on the world. But let’s talk about the live experience.
J.O. : It’s important to give people the same feeling you had when you wrote the song. I experienced it at Club Soda, I was gone. That energy transcended. That was a stepping stone and this new show at Le Belmont is definitely gonna change the game. We did this project in nine months. We’ve gone really far. We trying to make em expect the feeling of “it is yours also”. It is not only mine. People will have to accept it. So do we accept it now or o later? Find out at #MTL0505.

Montreal rapper, J.O The Corrupted, recently dropped a new music video for a new cut, called "The Concept," off his upcoming mixtape, CWS (Corrupted. World. Solution). In the clip, a goon dresses up like a bank robber -- compete with a ski-mask and bags labeled with dollar signs -- and walks Downtown Montreal. Watch how people react. At the same time, J.O posts on top of a building, spits his bars and makes it rain.

That’s why we’ve been getting so much buzz these days from J.O. The Corrupted. He’s one of those rare artists that have a serious professional ethic and work with a strong team to make sure he consistently delivers the product. That being said, one week after we posted up his recent video for “Corruption“, we now share his newest clip ” The Concept” (produced by PRINC€). Here he takes a stroll through downtown Montréal with a big bag of money, while recounting his visions in a stream-of-consciousness. Some of y’all may have heard it and some of y’all may not have, but the thing RIGHT NOW is ‘’HEAR ME’’ from Montreal’s newest rap sensation J.O THE CORRUPTED. After dropping the six track EP ‘’DISTANT VISIONS’’ (download here) and having a few performances and apparitions, as you can see here , J.O the Corrupted is back and dropped another single yesterday titled ‘‘Hear Me’’ (download here).

For the past few weeks all around the city we’ve been seeing a lot of these ”WANTED” posters for an eventual appearance made by J.O. So by curiosity like the ad was saying, I appear to be at the Apple Store June 21st at 4pm. With a couple of curious guest that seems to be waiting for the event titled as ”WANTED” to start, apparently there was no one concerned about how it was supposed process. As we were waiting, the only thing we saw is a guy coming out of nowhere in a ski mask, dress all black with 2 heavy loaded bags of money. Meanwhile, the whole crowd wondering about the daylight robbery, following the event, we witness a lot of homeless people getting money thrown at them. Next up, the disturbance continue when, money start falling from the sky at one point of the path took by the bandit .But no one was able to tell where it was coming from and where J.O was supposed to be seen.20130623-155353.jpg



As the crowd got bigger, all the attendance was looking for J.O who was allegedly on the scene but nowhere to be found. For those who witness the event, they were left with a couple of hundred bills with J.O imprint. Despite his unofficial appearance, J.O is looking forward to be the head of this generation of artist in Montreal.
