Bio

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Joy Angele’s sound is representative of the Crescent City’s unmistakable culture and artistic flair. Growing up as a preacher’s kid, her gospel roots are undeniable. With her grandmother as the church organist and her mother as the choir director, it was only natural for Joy Angele to gravitate towards the spotlight. At the tender age of five, Joy Angele made her singing debut at the church where her father ministered.

Throughout the years, classical vocal training and numerous performance opportunities fashioned the voice now distinctively known as that of artist Joy Angele. Influenced by such contemporary artists as Monica, Deborah Cox, Eric Benet, Brian McKnight, and Celine Dion, Joy Angele’s vocal prowess conjures reminiscent thoughts of a time when singers really sang – poignant lyrics, heartfelt delivery, and swooning harmonies all hugged up with a soulful groove.

Her self-described style is reality. With a realness that is unquestionably all her own, Joy Angele’s stage presence exudes energy and creativity - an exchange between herself and her audience that defies verbal description. To experience Joy Angele within a live setting is evocative of freedom – freedom to enjoy and celebrate life’s heights, depths, and in-betweens. Further describing her style as fun, laid-back and filled with harmony, Joy Angele takes the listener on an acoustic journey through life – a refreshing dose of escapism steeped in provocative reflection.

Personally, Joy Angele counts artists Brian McKnight, Tonex, India.Arie, Tony Terry, and Andre (from Outkast) among her favorites. As a singer/songwriter, composer and arranger, Joy Angele also has aspirations of collaborating with artists R. Kelly, Brian McKnight, India.Arie, and Jamie Foxx in the future.

Joy Angele has performed on stage singing background vocals for artists Rod Lumpkin (Entheos Records), Vashawn Mitchell, Mary Griffin, new artist Khara and Bishop Paul S. Morton. Performances include the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and opening concerts for artists Patti LaBelle and Confunction. Joy Angele was also one of the top ten semi- finalists for 106 and Park’s “Mimi I Wanna Sing Contest” sponsored by BET.

Joy Angele currently resides in Houston, TX since relocating from New Orleans after the devastating hurricane Katrina. Joy Angele is currently singing background for artist Mary Griffin and Khara. She will be working on a new gospel group project this year being released soon.
