Old Fashioned Soldier

Written By: Joyce M. Pyle

Old Fashioned Soldier

He grew up without too much to eat
no shoes to wear no winter heat
Times were rough but not as tought
As the fists felt as a child
He ran away to work the farm
Sent money home and hoped no harm
Would be felt among the kids
He had to leave behind
He grew strong and he worked the land
The war soon came and changed the man
He traded in his tractor for Army issue guns
He's an old fashioned soldier
With youth on his side
Willing to battle for freedom and pride
When he came back the kids were gone
They took them to another town
He had to find his sisters and brothers at all cost
And when he did he made a vow
To stay together no matter how
Hard the times would make it
They would never be apart
He worked hard to raise a family
With his wife close by his side
And now he is a soldier
Of a very different kind...

He bends over carefully
His legs aren't what they used to be
And his hand trembles slightly
As he straightens that old flag
He's just an old soldier
Who turns another page
And the battle that he wages
Now is his age
And if you were to meet him
He'd be sure to invite you in
With love for his family
And time for an old friend
He's an old fashioned soldier
With his wife by his side
An old fashioned soldier
With old fashioned pride

Violet Dawn

Written By: Joyce M. Pyle

Violet Dawn

I have seen the daylight die
When the horizon splits the sky
Velvet ribbons of midnight blue
Wrap around my dreams of you

And in my dreams your never gone
Till I awake to the violet dawn
I still see you on crystal shores
Your soul is a compass
To my heart
I still see ribbons of green
Where the deer
Still run free
And in my dreams you're never gone
Till I awake to the violet dawn

And in my dreams
You're never gone
Till I awake to the violet dawn
