"Joy Flying ready for takeoff"

"...However, it's the group's introspective songs themselves and the wide-ranging musical landscapre created by Gene Paredes, on guitar, along with the others, that complete a musical world that is as artistically formidable as it is accessible."

"...Since forming Joy Flying in 2003, the group has quietly gone from being a good band to a great one. Listening to tracks such as "The Light Went Out, " "Green" and "Feathers," it's hard to imagine Joy Flying remaining unsigned for long..." - O.C. Register

Bio

In 2004 Gene and Chantelle Paredes (brother and sister duo, you guessed it) of Joy Flying recorded some songs in their living room and put out an EP produced by Alex Walker and Pat Tetreault, two familiar names in the Portland indie-rock scene. By 2005 the band began to get local O.C. and L.A. press, were nominated for the L.A. music awards, and were getting calls for play on MTV reality shows and local radio stations. They held a residency at Santa Ana's Gypsy Den for a year and played the Hollywood, L.A and O.C. circuits along with local bands and songwriters such as Greg Laswell, Tyrone Wells, Ginger Reyes, Jessica Dobson, Melanoid, Yellow Red Sparks and on and on.

The following 2 years, drummer Noel P. and guitarist Alex Walker left the band, leaving the singer and bass player duo to finish up a full-length album and reform with new players.

Still working toward a full release, the new line-up for Joy Flying includes Gene and Chantelle Paredes and drummer Kelly Laugenhour.
