Bio

Born in Turrell, Arkansas, raised in Indiana, White moved to Nashville, TN in 1982 and soon became an in-demand demo singer for publishing companies and hit songwriters. Signed to Columbia/Sony Records she released two critically acclaimed records: “Between Midnight & Hindsight”, 1992 and “Wild Love”, 1994; plus four award winning videos.

In 2006 “One More Time” went to #3 on the Americana chart and was co-produced by White and Kyle Lehning.

Since 1989 White has been a staff songwriter for various publishing companies in Nashville.

She has sung harmony on albums with Dwight Yoakam, Randy Travis, Lucinda Williams, Buddy Miller, Iris DeMent and many others.

In 2006 she won first place in the International Songwriting Competition with, “Girls with Apartments in Nashville”.

She has received raving reviews in publications such as No Depression, Rolling Stone, USA Today, Stereo Review, Mojo, Chicago Sun Times, Billboard, R&R, Us Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Pulse Magazine, etc...

White has also played the leading role of Mother Maybelle Carter in the Barter Theatre’s production of “Keep on the Sunny Side”, singing, acting, and playing guitar.

Since 1991 White continues to tour nationally and internationally and has become known as the “singer’s singer”. Quoting Buddy Miller, “Joy Lynn White tears me up. Her voice and songs are powerful and fragile in the same moment, and as real as it gets”.
