Biography

JoyV is exotic and so is her music. It’s a celebration of life! Joy dissolves racial, cultural, and sexual boundaries and entices you to explore life on planet earth from a point of view like no other!

Her music has modern ambient grooves, roots rhythms, and conscious lyrics.

Born and raised in Barbados, Joy V describes her childhood experience as “exotic and enigmatic”. At the age of thirteen, seeking deeper answers to life's mysteries, she started reading every metaphysical book she could get her hands on. She has explored all forms of music and dance as part of this search and is an accomplished vocalist who can not only flawlessly duplicate sound but also improvise something entirely new at will. Her awareness that there is so much more available for us to choose in this life is part of the gift she brings to her performances. She is an invitation to life as true joyfulness embodied and you can feel it when she sings for you.

She says “I always knew I was different.” And anyone who has ever met her knows this to be true. Strikingly beautiful, graceful and charming; Joy’s honeyed voice will seduce you into the, warm, happy space of playful, expansive and inclusive energy that is Joy.

In keeping with her desire to know more, be more and perceive more, Joy pursued an academic and business career as well. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University’s Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and a Bachelor of Arts with highest honors in Theatre and Psychology from Smith College. Joy is always open to new possibilities for her life; her favorite question is “What else is possible?”

Joy is a qualified Access Energy Transformation facilitator and when she’s not singing, Joy facilitates Access classes around the planet. In these classes, Joy facilitates the discovery of infinite possibilities for the voice, body, and being. She will ask you to imagine a world where everything is included and nothing is judged. Would you like to step into the adventure of an orgasmic life? If you had ten seconds to live the rest of your life, what would you choose? What would it be like to choose for you? Joy has created a one woman show around these questions and has been invited to go on tour with it around the country. How does it get any better than this?

Joy is currently promoting her new CD, and delighting audiences in Australia, North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and South America as a singer, dancer and performance artist. Whether performing solo, with a band, or with a dance theater ensemble, she is an invitation to the joy of living.

What Do I Know

Written By: Joy V

What Do I Know

I’ve been searching for someone to see me
Searching for someone to be
I’ve been searching for someone to see me
Just for me

How can anyone ever see me?
If I don’t get up and get out and be me
How can I ever hope to make a difference in this crazy world
If I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do

What do I know
That I pretend not to know
What do I know
That I deny that I know

I’ve been searching for someone to guide me
Someone to show me the way
I’ve been searching but coming up empty
Just like me

How can anyone ever show me
How to live my life for me
How can I ever hope to make a difference in this crazy world
If I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do

What do I know
That I pretend not to know
What do I know
That I deny that I know

Migrant Soul

Migrant Soul

I’m a migrant soul
Crossing over every border
Gather up all the people
Tell them I have come
I can show you a place
Where there are people of every color
Jamming to the music
In the heat of the sun

I was born at a crossroads
Of heaven and earth – my mother
I came into being
And seeing myself through the eyes of others

My back is a bridge to paradise
My back is a bridge to euphoria
So I’m calling all the boys and girls
Too bad to go to heaven
Pack a bag and hitch a ride with a migrant soul
Let’s go home

I’m a migrant soul
Crossing over every border
Gather up all the people
Tell them I have come
I can show you a place
Where there are people of every color
Jamming to the music
In the heat of the sun

I was blind to my beauty
Until I put down the mirror
I was blind to my power
Until I knew I could be my biggest hero

My back is a bridge to paradise
My back is a bridge to emancipation
So I’m calling all the boys and girls
Too bad to go to heaven
Pack a bag and hitch a ride with a migrant soul
Let’s go home
