"High Street tunes"

A singer-songwriter is making her bid for global domination by first trying to conquer Putney High Street.
Joy Walshe, who lives near Wandsworth Park, has just released her debut album and hopes having local shops, restaurants and bars play it will help kick-start her career.
"I'd really like to get it played in as many places as I can," said the pop singer.
Despite writing her first composition aged 11, Joy, who lists influences as diverse as Kate Bush and Rachmaninov, did not always expect to end up as a musician.
After studying law at Leeds she moved to France, where she suddenly got her big break. Before she knew it Joy was singing for a French dance label.
After a record deal in London with an Independent label, Joy chose to go solo and is trying to build up a fanbase with her myspace internet site. She hopes her piano and guitar-led songs will strike a chord with the locals.
One place Joy's album is being played is the wine bar Hudson's. Manager Claire, said "I heard it for the first time the other day when some of the younger lot were playing it. I thought she sounded a bit like Joss Stone".
You can hear Joy play live at the Bedford in Balham, on May 29, or at the Half Moon, Putney on June 6. Visit joywalshe.com for more information. - Wandsworth & Putney Guardian

Bio

Joy is a British born and bred singer-songwriter with true star appeal.

Muisc has always been Joy's first love and after discovering she could play Rachmaninov by ear, Joy was soon composing, penning her first song at 11.

At 18, tours with highly regarded choirs on the Eastern coasts of Canada and USA ensued, including appearances on US television & radio. At University Joy began recording as a vocalist for a French dance label and it was this experience that fuelled her determination to pursue her career as a singer/songwriter.

With influences from such great singer-songwriters as Kate Bush, Jewel, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Corinne Bailey-Rae, James Blunt & Damien Rice, Joy's acoustic/pop/folk rock music sits just as happily amongst old classics as radio friendly commercial songs.

Joy has been described in the industry as "Kate Bush for the Noughties". Combining her diverse vocal range with a distinct pianist style, she creates songs so melodically and lyrically moving that they are haunting in their beauty.

Joy is a full time musician and has graced an array of high profile venues, including headlining at London's Bush Hall, Cafe de Paris and Dublin Castle.

She has performed her songs live on Sky Music Television, UK Radio, at Burgess Park music Festival and played 3 gigs on Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard.

Joy's debut album has been produced by Rupert Cobb (Damien Rice, Snow Patrol, Ray LaMontagne) and is released April 19th 2007. Joy's album is available on itunes from June 2007.

Joy's song 'Get Some' features on the film Soundtrack of 'Manners', a 'Shortest Straw/What She Did' Production set to be released this year with Adrian Mills as the main lead.

Joy can currently be seen performing live with her fabulous 5 piece band on the London gig circuit and would love your support.
