"Los Angeles Music Scene"

Jessie Payo, a young woman fresh out of high school, has been belting it out since she was a child, and one can't help but notice the contradictions: She appears young, yet has the onstage character and voice of an old, wise, and experienced soul. With influences like Ella Fitzgerald and Janis Joplin, Jessie has studied her blues lessons well, enough to thrill every living, beating heart at Rusty's a couple of weeks ago. She also has a uniquely intense stage persona, living every lyric and moving her body in direct response, akin to Tina Turner's emotional passion.

"Hell of a Man" was powerfully raspy, illustrating Jessie's mind boggling vocal range and intensity, while "Spoonful" revealed her sultry, sexy quality. She wrapped up the more than two-hour set with a lengthy, female-angst ballad called "I Don't Deserve This." One word: Wow.

"Southland Blues Vol. 10 Num 10"

Tonight at 9pm at the House of Blues Foundation Room on Sunset Blvd., a very young, very vivacious, and very talented performer by the name of Jessie Payo was making a debut appearance. The foundation room is small and the crowd was large. A mesh of bodies was trying to dance because her style is beckoning you to come and take part. Jessie's voice as a throaty, vibrant, energetic quality that does bring to mind a long-suffering Janis Joplin. ...When she sings you want to put on your happy face cause this girl has talent and she knows how to use it. The "mean age" at last nights performance was barely "bar legal" and they ad come to watch as well as listen cause this girl has a seductive innocence that is genuine. Jessie had them on their feet with a rock solid performance. Such a large voice for so small a body, she could have filled an auditorium .
Jessie Payo sings blues, no R&B here. This is a Blues Band, solid Blues with a blues frequency from trainyard blues of the 40s to the swingin’ Cadillac blues of the 50s to the funky Bus Stop Blues of the 60’s.
Jessie and the Raindogs will blast from the past and I’m sure will rocket into the future. I heard some good blues last night.

"Cape Code Times"

Review of REEL BLUES FESTIVAL 2003.

...and a 19 year old phenom from California, Jessie Payo, whose short, thin body produced a range and sensuality reminiscent of a young Tina Turner. Her exuberant prancing and good looks didn't hurt either - every man's head in the Tent was glued to her as she undulated and wailed through "Hoochie Koochie Woman" and "I Smell Trouble."
