Bio

Christopher J Delaney aka J Phoenix, was born in Kansas City,MO on May 29,1987but spent his early years in Lake Prividence,Louisiana, raised by his grandmother, Elaine McLain. At age 5, Delaney and his grandmother moved to the fourth largest city in the US, Houston,Tx where the story of J Phoenix would ultimately begin.

At Age 9, music became apart of Delaney's life at his home church, New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Alvin,Tx, under the direction of his grandmother who was theestablishment's choir director/organist.With no musical training at all, and only a strong bloodline of musicians (mom a singer, dad a pianist), Delaney first fell in love with drums/percussion, which to this day, is still a favorite of J Phoenix.

In 2002, Delaney transferred from Alief,Texas into the heart of Houston's Galleria area where he attended Lee High School. There, Delaney became very dominant in choral competions where he took the honor regionals twice which led to a UIL State Solo championship in 2005. At Lee, Delaney played drums/percussion in the underground seen with other young local acts as such as Malicia (metal), Burning Thoughts (Alternative), and the student teacher band, The Weapons of Mass Distraction (Cover Band).

In 2005, Delaney also recievced a scholarship to study Music Education/Vocal Performance at Houston Baptist University where he claimed lead roles in the university's opera program and earned a spot in the university's top level ensemble, the Schola Cantorum where he sang Baritone/Bass under the direction of Dr. John Yarrington. Through Delaney's college years, he consistently honed his vocal skill under the direction of his vocal coach, Dr. Rick Piersall, and became profficient in piano through the teachings of Msrs. Emmeline Kramlich.

Delaney always took his spiritual music influences and later performed with contemporary rock band, 3 Point Crossing, with founder Nick Pizana. Together, they performend locally and throughout the Rio Grande Valley at festivals, revivals, and other events, mentoring the outh and elderly around the state of Texas.

Collective Hallucination founded by Anthony Fraizier aka Ant Boogie, was a local band out of Houston,Tx in which Delaney played Drums/Percussion for at venues like the Red Cat (Houston), and Carlos and Charlies (Austin) to name a few.

However, in 2008, Delaney formend his own band under the title Evita, that was a five piece band where he stepped up to the role of front man for the first time in his life. The best part of everything, originals that he had written years before were finally able to be brought to life.

Leviating towards a solo career as an Independent Artist in 2009, Delaney embarked on his own musical career, which includes a more creative vibe of acoustic and indie soul music, and became J Phoenix.
