The J.R. Byrd Band

A pop-rock singer-songwriter based out of Denton, Texas, J.R. Byrd has been writing and performing his own songs sine the age of 16. Influenced by the likes of John Mayer, Steely Dan, Dave Matthews, and Stone Temple Pilots, J.R.’s music sounds suspiciously like the love child of jazz and rock ‘n roll. Of course, having graduated from the University of North Texas’s Jazz department, and growing up listening to rock music, that probably makes a lot of sense.

It was at the University that J.R. met keyboardist Ross Redmond. Originally J.R. recruited Ross to play keys in his short-lived, original act By Starlight. While the band put out a full-length album, they eventually parted ways as each musician pursued separate ventures. Not long after parting, J.R. called on Ross for his pop/rock cover act. With drummer Ryan Brown on board, the band was set.

Over time J.R. worked his original tunes into the cover shows. And the people loved them! One tune at a time J.R. started to win over fans with his smooth voice, enchanting lyrics, and catchy melodies.

Today, The J.R. Byrd Band can be found playing J.R.’s original tunes in just about every type of venue imaginable. Wine bars, jazz bistros, multi-club venues, private parties, and more. With over two and a half hours of original music to pull from, the band has been playing all original acts at select venues and large scale festivals, such as The Denton Jazz and Arts Festival for over a year. And no matter where they play, no matter who is watching, the band puts on a show that the crowd enjoys.
