BandAlternativeSinger/Songwriter

I play music that pulls influences from singer songwriter, acoustic, indie, alternative, and a hint of electronica. I fuse these genres and create a sound that is danceable and emotionally fused.

Biography

jrj first picked up a guitar at the age of 9 and has since evolved and grown musically in many different forms. She spent her first 18 years in Calgary Alberta where she won the Calgary Urban Vibe battle of the bands, was a finalist in the Calgary Folk Fest Songwriting Competition, and also was selected as the headlining act at the Calgary Pride Festival.

After recording her demo jrj went on to play at numerous local venues with a diverse range artists. This past summer jrj relocated to Vancouver to study at the Emily Carr Institute where she plans on receiving a media degree. She self recorded and produced her first EP titled Everyone’s Together And I’m Apart during the late summer in both Calgary and Vancouver. Her development as an artist from her demo is great and shows no signs of stopping.

Her music conveys an individual and unique sound that pulls from a very diverse musical selection. With ambiguous and somewhat satiric messages she leaves the listener thinking. Be sure to keep an eye out for her in the coming years because there is no doubt that her development as an artist will turn some heads.

Lyrics

Sinkers

Written By: jrj

I liked you before you gave a shit about your hair.
And I liked it when you’d talk like you were dead.

If your voice could kill I’d be the first to go.
If your voice could kill I’d be the first.

Don’t wait for me. Don’t stand around. Don’t grow older. Don’t go down. Don’t stand on me. Don’t wait around.

We’ve made eye contact through sheets of paper.
But you’ve never had the chance to me my face.

If your voice could kill I’d be the first to go.
If your voice could kill I’d be the first.

Don’t wait for me. Don’t stand around. Don’t grow older. Don’t go down. Don’t stand on me. Don’t wait around. Around. Around. Around. Around. Around.

I’d be the first. I’d be the first. I’d be the first the go.

Don’t wait around for me. Don’t wait around for me. Don’t wait around for me.

The Beekeeper Who Lost A Voice

Written By: jrj

Left your self alone, and you turned your back so I couldn’t see you cry.
Came home last night, to drink or drown in a cup of water.

In a cup of water.

Lost your voice, so you wouldn’t have to yell at me.
And you held your breath underneath my chest so you wouldn’t fall in love.

Fall in love.

Let them out.
Let them sting me. Let them sting.

Doesn’t it feel good.
