For as long as he can remember, J.R. has thrown himself entirely into music. Growing up in Pittsburgh in the 80’s, J.R. exposed himself to pioneering musical influences like: The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, The Dells, Stevie Wonder and Al Green. When you listen to J.R, you're listening to years of those influences.

Joe began his professional music career as a member of the R&B group AdVerse -- a quartet made up of Joe and his childhood friends. AdVerse generated a buzz throughout Pittsburgh, winning local talent shows but eventually the group split. Following the split, J.R. emerged as a solo artist .

With his strong voice, fresh sound, and easy-to-relate-to lyrics, J.R. is part of a generation with the potential to put the R&B genre back on top.

“R&B has started to become obsolete, and that genre of music has always been a foundation of the music culture.”

On a typical day, you can find J.R. listening to beats and writing lyrics. His demo reflects a range of songs that will appeal to a wide cross-section of male and female R&B fans.

In songs like “Pack Your Bags,” J.R. captures the frustrations of modern men outing a cheating girlfriend. Then J.R. also proves that he can reach the trendy female of today with songs like, “Sunny Dayz” that explain how it can really feel to have someone on your side. J.R.’s writing arsenal is not just limited to songs about relationships. He decided to hit the mixtape circuit with the club jam, “Work It Out” giving us a sample of the J.R. people may not be familiar with. J.R. is on the edge of urban stardom and likes the idea of keeping folks thinking.

“I like to keep my lyrics conscious about anything that revolves around today’s society,” he says, “words and ideas that will stick with people.”
