""Call High Water" Review"

"...Jaime Robbie Reyne possesses a quivering vulnerability in his voice, one that seeps in through waves of his heavily Australian-twanged vowels. He holds his notes like yardsticks in the swirling waters of persistently firm, yet unassumingly gentle, blues riffs...uplifting yet relaxed progressions set the backdrop for quiet moments alone... or a night out amongst it with arms-over-friend's-shoulders-sing-alongs." - Clare Anderson, Beat Magazine

""The Song's The Thing""

He may only be 21, but singer/songwriter and guitarist Jaime Robbie Reyne already boasts a voice one writer described as "so real it hurts."
With that in mind, he spoke to Michael Smith about his journey into Authenticity.

""Remember To Breathe" Review"

JAIME ROBBIE REYNE - REMEMBER TO BREATHE.
Twenty-six year old singer-songwriter, Jamie Robbie Reyne is set to release his debut solo single ‘Remember to Breathe’ on May 9th. Having had a hectic past six months supporting acclaimed music icons such as Pat Benatar, The Bangles, Cloud Control, Thirsty Merc and performing at Hot BBQ Festival, Secret Garden Festival and Rock For Relief Australian Flood Fundraiser, it is clear that Jaime’s music is getting some serious live exposure.

Jaime has fronted bands, Rushcutter and The Paradise Three; however this release showcases his solo talent as a powerful, independent vocal artist and an impressive Australian songwriter. His voice has an earthy quality which could be described as Jon Bon Jovi meets Jeff Buckley. ‘Remember to Breathe’ is a country flavoured rock song with clear lyrics and a catchy melody; it doesn’t have any surprises but it should hit a chord with country/rock enthusiasts.

Rollingstone Magazine (Aus) described Jaime Robbie Reyne as the “New artist you should know about!” These sentiments were affirmed by Caz Tran, Triple J who reviewed Jaime’s new release, “it’s a beauty-keep an eye out for him. Love the sound of that one-at the very top of the bracket.”

In a fickle industry, Jaime’s ‘Rock-God’ appearance has certainly given him an edge; he was a finalist in the 2011 CLEO Bachelor of the year, exposing him to a whole new audience.

""Jaime Robbie Reyne's Australian Life""

After stints with Jaime Robbie Reyne & The Paradise Three and Rushcutter, was it time for Jaime Robbie Reyne to have just his name on the cover? "I don't know," Jaime laughs. "After Rushcutter ended, I felt rather emancipated and just wanted to be out there on my own for a bit; maybe forever, who knows. I just didn't want to be tied down to a project name; that or I'm just really boring and unimaginative!"

There's nothing boring or unimaginative about Jaime's debut solo single, Remember To Breathe. It's a fine slice of rollicking pop. You get the feeling that after a few years of struggling for direction, Jaime is back on track. He took the title from a "cheesy movie". "It just stuck for some reason," he explains. "I very rarely have specific subject matter when I sit down to write a song - I usually just go with what feels right at the time. Got to let it come naturally." Remember To Breathe was inspired by everyday life. "Pretty much every vignette in the song is from me looking out the tour van window," Jaime says, "trucks, massive shopping complexes, families coming home from work, cities on the horizon ... and compiling it into my own little version of Australian life."

Jaime loves touring - "It always feels good to keep moving along." He even spent his recent 26th birthday on the road, having a few quiet XXXXs before his Gold Coast show. After the 25-date Remember To Breathe tour, Jaime plans to base himself in the US, where he'll finish his debut album with Niko Bolas.

Jaime calls Niko "an absolute dude of the highest-order". He's produced a stack of classic albums, including Neil Young's Freedom and Warren Zevon's Sentimental Hygiene, and he mixed Don Henley's The Boys of Summer. Jaime reveals that Niko also has a signature move. "He'll do this kind of sway-dance when he's into a tune or an idea. If you see him doing that, you know it ain't half bad."

Niko produced the Rushcutter EP, Call High Water, which was the band's only release for Mercury/Universal. "Rushcutter had just run its course," Jaime says. "We all ended up wanting different things about a year or so before we broke up. The end of the band allowed us to go out and try other things; spread our wings, so to speak."

Jaime was in Neighbours when we got to know him. His character, schoolboy Taj, even had a fling with Libby Kennedy. Jaime hopes to do more acting, but right now, he's focused on music. "It's a cliché, but you're always learning," he says. "Honestly, the more I learn from doing this, the more I realise how little I really know." ""Aussie singer striking out solo in Big Apple""

FORMER Neighbours favourite Jaime Robbie Reyne has made the move to New York to pursue his recording career.

Reyne, the handsome model son of hit-maker and Australian Crawl frontman James Reyne, settled in his new hometown about two weeks ago.

Reyne, a singer-songwriter, has been part of various bands in Australia for several years. However, he now has his sights set on being a solo artist. "It has always been my dream to be based in the US," Reyne said.

"It is a really exciting and inspiring time. I am starting from scratch over here. But I don't have a girlfriend, I don't have a mortgage, I don't have children, so I thought 'let's give it a go'."

Reyne released his debut single, Remember To Breathe, in May and is in the process of recording his debut album, which will be out by the end of the year.

"Following a successful 2009 the Melbourne band are now set to release the melodic rock track, Foreign Soil. With a classic rock sound and a cntemporary pop-rock twist...a name to look out for this year!" - The Music Network

""Reyne Forecast""

Jaime Robbie Reyne launches his debut solo single, Remember To Breathe, at Revolver on Saturday. Catch him while you can - this is also a farewell show, with Jaime relocating to New York the following day. "The time is right to make the move." says Jaime, who will record his debut album in the US with producer Niko Bolas.
Jaime was in fine form , fronting a rootsy trio, when we caught him at the Thornbury Theatre last Thursday. He even covered Springsteen's 'I'm On Fire' - a hit the year Jaime was born. - Inpress Magazine

"Live Review - FasterLouder"

Headline act for the night Jaime Robbie Reyne is both a Cleo Bachelor of the Year 2011 nominee and a Neighbours alumnus (it’s up to you which one you’re more impressed with). Reyne certainly hasn’t followed the Valance-Goodrem school of post-Neighbours pop, nor affected a sensitive-hipster-with-guitar pose; what we were privileged to hear on Thursday night was roots, blues and rock at its finest.

Having toured with the likes of Pat Benatar and The Bangles in the past, Lyneham may have been a slight change of scene for Reyne, but he brought a great deal of energy and charisma to The Front, as he swung past on the last leg of his whirlwind Remember to Breathe tour. He filled the space with the energetic roots sounds of his debut solo release of the same name.

Soldiering bravely on after being confronted by two broken guitar strings, Reyne and his bandmates Mike O’Dowd and Leigh Baines produced the kind of raw, soulful blues and rock music that you don’t hear enough of anymore.? Echoes of the influences he cites, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen could be found throughout his set, but Reyne has developed a sound that is uniquely his, and the audience couldn’t get enough of it, snapping up the free singles he was handing out. They chanted “Encore!” and demanded more until Reyne and the boys gave in, performing Baby Going Down to rapturous applause before heading off into the cold Canberra night. - FasterLouder

""Singer Basking in Glow of the Sunshine State""

Jaime Robbie Reyne is about to head to LA indefinitely but before he goes he's doing two nights at the Old Manly Boatshed.
Reyne has just finished a 25-date east coast tour of Australia on the back of his single release, Remember To Breathe.
He is going to the US to finish his album, which will feature Remember To Breathe.
He has been touring with his three-piece band The Broken Hearts and reported great success in Queensland.
About 25 years earlier, his dad James Reyne, and the band Australian Crawl, also enjoyed huge success in Queensland.
"I seem to go well in the coastal areas." Jaime said. "I've always lived near the beach. Maybe that comes through."
Jaime felt the record would be finished by the end of the year.
"I would love to come back and tour it around the country in Summer." he said.
AMong the venues, he assured us, would be the Boatshed because he loved playing there.
"That's where we'll launch it," he said, possibly tongue-in-cheek. - The Manly Daily, Sydney

"Live Review - Indie Initiative"

"...he blew the crowd away - a wonderful voice, full of vibrato that expresses sadness and longing. It moves you. Jaime Robbie Reyne has the charisma, the voice and some great songs - the best this year!" - Neil Wedd, Indie Initiative

"Live Review - The Brag Magazine"

"...Jaime Robbie Reyne's voice is so real it hurts; the raw emotion is carried in every note, creating an intense intimacy that envelops the whole crowd. His electric guitar is more than enough to carry his soulful country blues, which is at once both joyous and mournful (in a Cruel Sea kinda way). Absolutely gutted to find that his free, hand-carved CD didn't play when I got it home. Next time, Dr. Reyne, next time." - Drew Clarke, The Brag Magazine

"Live Review - Inpress Magazine"

"...I'm thinking Jeff Buckley and after a couple more tunes and a change to his dirty electric guitar it felt a bit more like Ry Cooder - even a little B.B. King" - Mark Goddard, Inpress Magazine

"Jaime Robbie Reyne is here and you need to remember to breathe in his presence. Australian native JR Reyne is gracing N.Y.C with his deeply penetrating sounds, gaze & inspired lust for the blues. His acoustic sets are as powerful as an arena experience & his is living true. His harmonica & him can howl endlessly together like a rock & roll legend. He has nothing to hide on stage & the lyrics feel more than honest. It's a beautifully raw & merciful variation of rocking-roots-country-blues.
He has fans from all over the World & we recommend you become one too.

FULL BIO:

Australian singer-songwriter JR Reyne has been on a musical path right from the beginning. Releasing his debut EP Tex Sessions at the age of 20, then wasting no time releasing the critically acclaimed album Fallen Flower the following year, Reyne was already well in tune with his style of music, citing influences from Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and John Hiatt to Townes Van Zandt, Elvis Costello and Gram Parsons.

Reyne has lived and played all over Australia, America, Asia and the UK, as both a solo artist and in bands, most notably as founding member and frontman of Rushcutter. Whilst spending time in Nashville with Rushcutter he brushed paths with legendary producer Niko Bolas - long time collaborator of Neil Young, Keith Richards and Warren Zevon. Upon returning to Australia, Rushcutter were signed to Mercury Records / Universal and worked with Bolas at Melbourne's famed Sing Sing Studios to produce their debut, critically-acclaimed release, Call High Water.

JR has since released and toured solo efforts “Remember To Breathe” & “Turtledove” throughout Australia & the US to glowing reviews, playing at festivals such as A Day on the Green, St Kilda Festival, Manifestivus, Hot BBQ, Queenscliff Music Festival, Aust. Country Music Muster, and Rock For Relief, and shared stages with Pat Benatar, The Bangles, Gotye, Brett Dennen, Paul Kelly, Clare Bowditch, Cloud Control, The Waifs, Loon Lake, Canyons, Vasco Era & Paris Wells to name a few. ?

2012 has seen JR relocate to North America where he’s been busy performing at major showcase festivals NXNE and Canadian Music Week as well as pre-producing his debut LP at LA’s famed Capitol Records and TC Studios in Toronto. Reyne is currently touring brand-new release ‘Word Gets Around’ – produced at Kent Ave Studio, NYC which features the JR Reyne Band, and also guests Jon Graboff (Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Willie Nelson) and Jeff Hill (Shooter Jennings, Rufus Wainwright, Joan As Police Woman) – be sure to catch a show!
