Bio

What would you call music that brings a touch of gospel blended with a hint of blues and rock uniting contemporary R&B and 70’s style funk all merged with elements of hip hop? We would all simply call it “great music” but when it comes down to it, it’s just soul or J-S.O.U.L., if you will. With strong influences from the great gospel quartets such as the Williams Brothers along with the Mighty Clouds of Joy, Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, and Musiq SoulChild, J-S.O.U.L. can be recognized by a unique groove that has redefined soul music, as we know it. Please do not be deceived; although various genres of music and many artists have been inspiration behind his music, J-S.O.U.L. lives up to the acronym that spells out his name, James Sings Only Unto the Lord.

Born, James Adam Scott, Jr., this Philadelphia native’s love for music began at a very early age, as he became known as a young child singing sensation before he was three years old. So far this year alone, J-S.O.U.L. has performed before nearly 500,000 people, appeared internationally on The Word Network and Stir It Up TV, and has been featured in two of the nation’s most elite Gospel magazines. His extreme vocal ability has enabled him to share his gift throughout our nation, opening for artists such as Yolanda Adams, Ne-Yo, New Edition, Frankie Beverly and the Mayes, Toni Toni Toni, Dwele, Fred Hammond, Kierra Sheard, and Tye Tribbett (to name a few), and in several countries abroad including Germany, Russia, Singapore, and Malaysia singing as a lead vocalist in groups as well as a background vocalist for several recording artists such as John Gray and American Idol’s LaToya London. Among the countless events and large platforms that J-S.O.U.L. has had the pleasure of singing at are the Gospel Heritage Foundation’s Praise and Worship Conference and Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn Festival.

J-S.O.U.L.’s tremendous capacity as a multi-dimensional musician and songwriter has empowered him to be a sought after producer, arranger and songwriter. From musical commercials and jingles and contemporary and traditional Christian and Gospel music, to ballads, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Rhythm and Blues, J-S.O.U.L. has created works of genius for numerous artists including Bishop Bruce Parham,Tamayya J, Bashir, actor Chaz Sheppard (from Seventh Heaven and Oprah Winfrey’s Broadway production The Color Purple), and many more artists across the board.

With the release of his debut project scheduled to hit your nearest music store this May, J-S.O.U.L.’s aspiration to soon be recognized among our modern-day music marvels is close at hand as this is just the beginning of his professional career. J-S.O.U.L. the musician, vocalist, songwriter, producer, and arranger is upon us. Redirect your attention as his footprints lead to the pinnacle of a musical mastermind and his music graces us for years to come.
