"Jensen Sportag: Sergio"

"Nashville-based electronic/dance extraordinaire Jensen Sportag are releasing a short player, Sergio, on December 2nd. Ariel Pink contributed vocals and cover art to their self-titled 2007 debut, and Dent May recently invited the band out to his Mississippi ranch to collaborate. Max Tunda also recently released a promo mix featuring one of their songs, “Cocktease.” He’s also invited Jensen Sportag to work on his forthcoming remix LP, and open up for a forthcoming tour." - Parasites And Sychophants

"Forkcast: Jensen Sportag "Cocktease (Max Tundra Remix)""

"[from the Jackie EP; due 03/03/09 on MIDISPORT; also from a forthcoming single on Domino]" - Pitchfork

"Jensen Sportag Remixed by Max Tundra"

"We've been enjoying Nashville's Jensen Sportag for a while now , and it seems another big indie name has jumped on their bandwagon. Originally Ariel Pink was the indie powerhouse touting the band's funk-sexy 80s grooves, but now he has been joined by Max Tundra . Tundra has been namechecking/working with the band and recently remixed JS's Cocktease to be featured on their upcoming March EP release." - We Are Hunted

"New Music Thursdays – Jensen Sportag"

"The Nashville-based electronic, live-techno duo comprised of Benji Craig and Austin Wilkinson first caught our attention last year with their self-released, self-titled debut, which featured cover art by Ariel Pink — who also made a guest appearance on the record. Self-proclaimed “post techno,” we hadn’t heard much from Jensen Sportag since, until we caught wind of a show they did last night in Atlanta with Ghostland Observatory. Turns out they have a new EP coming in December.

The new short-player will be self-released on December 2 and is titled Sergio. It’s essentially a single for the song “Power Sergio”, featuring three other songs and three remixes of the title track. With keyboards, trashy 80s beats, over-the-top techno with an arty sense of the absurd create surprisingly catchy songs that will mess with your frequency in numerous ways.

Jensen Sportag has one more show opening up for Ghostland Observatory tonight in Nashville at the Cannery Ballroom, and If that’s not enough to entice you, My Old Kentucky Blog has reported that new Paw Tracks signee Dent May recently invited the band out to his Mississippi ranch to collaborate and Max Tunda is having them contribute to his forthcoming remix LP, as well as inviting them to open up for his forthcoming tour. Also courtesy of MOKB, are first two tracks from Sergio." - Fader

"Not From Sweden: Jensen Sportag"

"Jensen Sportag over the past week has gotten tons of press Fluxblog, MYOKB, Tripwire, etc. In case you’re unfamiliar, Jensen Sportag is a Nashville-based artist who creates some laid back housey vibes with a bit of downtempo thrown in for good measure. Their tunes have a bit of an 80's vibe mixed with some Ibiza lite to create a sort of live organic feel that's a bit abstract but still ridiculously catchy.

They’re releasing a short-player on December 2nd called Sergio. The duo has made fast friends out of the Paw Track stable of artists – Ariel Pink contributed vocals and cover art to their self-titled 2007 debut, and new-signing Dent May recently invited the band out to his Mississippi ranch to collaborate.

They’ve also got a big fan in the form of Domino Records’ Max Tunda, who recently released a promo mix featuring one of their songs, "Cocktease," (and if you pay attention to his version of Hot Chip's Playboy, you'll notice he replaces the line "Blazin Out Yo La Tengo" with "Blazin out Jensen Sportag"). He's also tapped the boys for his forthcoming remix LP, and has invited them to open up for a forthcoming tour." - The POP! Stereo

"Indiehere"

"I have a little obsession with the guys of Jensen Sportag, ever since the release of Max Tundra's mix where he featured snips of "Cocktease" I fell completely head over hills. On December Jensen Sportag released their ep. "Power of Sergio" another Disco House ballad which captivated many by their smooth electro rhythms; coming march 3rd on the bands label MIDISPORT, Jensen Sportag are preparing to release their latest ep. "Jackie" Which include the single as well as some remixes of the same song, and my favorite Max Tundra remix of Cocktease." - Jensen Sportag Jackie

"Jensen Sportag"

"Around sometime way back in 2007 (exaggeration) our blogger pals Nashville Nights would not shut up about ‘these producers from Nashville who were amazing’ and he wouldn’t tell us who these ‘amazing’ producers were.

Fast-forward to now, he’s done his blooming post and we can share his enthusiasm over these producers who are called Jensen Sportag. Synthy, laidback music with touches of R&B style are certainly a unique combination but these guys make it work and it looks like they are very much one to watch.

No originals to post, you’ll have to hit up their myspace for those. Instead, enjoy a ‘rejected’ remix they did for Au Revoir Simone, you’ll be asking why the heck it was rejected….

But the highlight of this post is the remix they did for Mystery Roar’s ‘NYC Balloon’. It’s actually quite bizzare on one hand, as it’s very disjointed. But on the other hand it’s deliciously chilled and very funky." - Too Many Sebatians

"Jensen Sportag"

"Here's a little "Post Techno" for your morning commute. Jensen Sportag are an unsigned duo residing in Nashville, TN. The cover pretty much says it all. Keyboards, trashy 80's beats, post punk weirdness, and an arty sense of the absurd coalesce into a freaked-out batch of surprisingly catchy songs. This band even has a softer side reminiscent of the Junior Boys, as exhibited on "Just a Part of Me". Above all, Jensen Sportag seem to cherish a playful sense of humor. This is displayed prominently on the wildly divergent track "Dont Matter". The band starts of in their comfort zone, synth driven, hyperkinetic, melodic techno, and then branches off into southern rap, country, latin house, and 80's rock balladry, returning occasionally to the dance beat from where they began. It is a surprisingly enjoyable exercise in genre hopping." - Tigers Of Love

Bio

Jensen Sportag is one of many ongoing collaborations between Elvis Craig and Austin Wilkinson. The Jensen Sportag sound in particular is based in two very different but sequentially important settings from their shared adolescence. One, afternoons in a car with mom's lite early 90's R&B soundtrack - and Two, endless nights spent in the warehouses of the mid 90's southern U.S. rave scene. While releases and live shows by Jensen Sportag are rare they have somehow managed to earn big fans in fellow oddballs Max Tundra who name checks Sportag in a song and remixes 2009's Cocktease; Ariel Pink who lends cover art and a vocal to Sportag's sold out self titled cd from 2008, and Classixx who were the first Dj team to start regularly including Sportag songs in live sets. Promising to come out of hiding Jensen Sportag plans live shows and many more releases in 2011.
