Biography

A multi-talented singer-songwriter who pursues rhythm and lyrics, J Stevens has written and published over 30 folk-blues songs within his current 4 CD catalogue. His first, Folk I Don’t Know a solo project in 2005, was fueled with wild guitar-driven adventure stories.  This very honest sound brought J into the Toronto folk circuit and singing on street corners to get his music heard.  Writing from experience of trials and travels his next installment proved to be a much grittier blues collection on When The World Pulls The Plug which he took to the east coast to find influences of bluegrass and folk-punk alike.

As well as performance, J is involved in the production of recordings from start to finish; organizing his own studio works and promotional company. In 2009 Shoestring Studios released The Illustrated Natural History Of... a testament to his growth as a poet and wandering soul.
2011 My Best Yet is a retrospective collection of re-mastered favorites and a few demo and unheard live tracks published this spring.

The EP release Climate Controlled is set to hit the road August 25th, 2011 with digital singles available sooner.

Lyrics

Stately Dissonance

Written By: J Stevens

When the heads of state, go marching in.
When the heads of states go marching in.
The town will be on lock-down,
when the heads of states go marching in.

There's the G20 and the G8,
they're private meetings no debate.
They discuss the concerns of the ruling class,
while democracy's at the gate.

Oh when the states, go marching in.
When the head of states go marching in.
They shot someone dead in Genoa,
and killed again in London-town.

The IMF, and the World Bank,
it's those folks whom we can thank.
They pillage the public interest,
while the heads of states go marching in.

When the heads of state go marching in.
When the heads of state go marching in!
The town will be on lock-down,
when the heads of state go marching in.

Won't Fill Yer Cup

Written By: J Stevens

I don't want nothin' bought from the store,
won't sell my labour to the rich like a whore.
This is the real world and it's real funked up.
You could buy everything but it won't fill yer cup.

Won't fill yer cup.
No, it won't fill yer cup.

Take all your money and hop on a plane,
take a home in France somewhere near Spain.
I'll tell you all this money ain't gonna do nothin' for yer pain.
You could buy everything but it won't fill yer cup.

Won't fill yer cup.
Won't fill yer cup,
no, it won't fill yer cup.

You say all that moneys gonna take you real far,
if that's so true how come I always see you at the bar?
That stuff won't help you do nothin' but kill yerself.
You can buy everything, it won't fill yer cup.

Won't fill yer cup.
Won't fill yer cup.
No, it won't fill yer cup.
