Loggers won't be the only ones shouting "Timber" Saturday.
Greensboro pop-rocker J. Timber's in town.
Think soul shattering, chin-rocking, catchy vocals.
"I guess you could say it's like R&B soulful singing with a little rock and roll and pop sprinkled on top," Timber said.
With an overdose of synthesized instrumentals, J. Timber and his accompanying five-piece claims a "Top 40 feel" and have been together for more than two years.
Timber, who moved to North Carolina as a kid from the Bronx, N.Y., credits his new home state with carving his sound.
After all, if he had stayed in New York, "I would never have listened to Southern rock or country or bluegrass, and those are big influences," he said. "I'm just now starting to incorporate them into my music."
With Timber's understanding of rhythm, it's no wonder he started as a drummer.
"I've been playing drums since fifth grade," he said. "I always knew I'd be in music ever since I was little. It was just something I wanted to do. I finally got serious about it ... I was a drummer and a back-up singer, and I ended up outsinging the singer one night."
That's when he decided to take center stage. "And I've never looked back," he said.
Timber, who just finished shooting a music video, is also making a name for his sound in the corporate world. No hints, but he says to expect his sound in conjunction with a national light beer company.
In the meantime, he's rocking the Boone Saloon (489 W. King St.), Saturday, Sept. 18, with local hip hoppers BPL (www.myspace.com/bpl6).

J Timber is Greensboros best kept secret. Originally from New
York, J Timber moved to Greensboro with his family when he was
young. The Indie-Pop artist has R&B influenced vocals and completed
his debut EP, Self-Titled, through Nascent Republic Records in May
2010. In a seeming fairytale, Joey Barnes of Daughtry fame heard
him playing during a break on the road and was so impressed with
the young musician that he decided to produce J Timbers first
record. The music video for "Something To Say" is currently being featured
on FUSE ON DEMAND for all of October 2010.
J Timber has been playing around Greensboro, Charlotte, and
Raleigh, and has opened up for local bands as well as national acts
such as Anoop Desai, Coolio and Boys II Men.
Available on iTunes and physical discs through the label website in May,
Self-Titled will have an initial release in Greensboro, followed by a
touring promotion. J Timber will appear on the Fox 8 morning show on
Tuesday, May 25, the same day the record will be available for pre-order
on iTunes.
