"JT Spangler Raised the Talent Bar at the Cat Club"

Originally from the Louisiana, LA newcomer JT Spangler brought soulful melodies to the Sunset Strip last night, conveyed with a voice that silenced the room through moving a cappella and then guitar-driven acoustic love songs (for no one.)

Perhaps it was the small space, but it seems that there is a quality about JT's voice that resonates even after he finishes the note; the lyrics, too, continue to exist in the room after their spoken.

In "Lullaby," JT sings "Life don't make sense, she trades her youth to pay the rent, and she worries she'll break, cause she can't bend." In "Impossible," he declares "If I were a sculptor with my hands, I'd scrape away your demands, and cut on through, I'd mold the excess near perfection, It'd be just like you, but brand new." Throughout all songs, lines appeared to rhyme effortlessly, creating a fluidity of sound that was a pleasure to witness.

Although storytelling is at the root of all of JT's songs, he reminds the audience that his songs are not necessarily autobiographical. After all, it is not necessarily the job of an artist to put their life to music, but to observe experiences and place them into the context of art so they can go on to help others. As JT also suggested mid-performance, the songs don't care about the original story – who was right, who was wrong, who was loved – they just are what they are; they are what the artist allows them to be.

In addition to featuring songs from his new EP "Love Songs for No One," JT sang two well-chosen covers (Bill Withers' Who Is He and Steve Wonder's Never Had a Dream) and debuted new track "Good Morning, Baby," about a kind of love that brightens all parts of the day and makes them worth celebrating. - LA Acoustic Meetup

"Unsigned Artist of the Month"

JT Spangler, a Louisiana native, first contacted me to pay a compliment to last month’s article. He omitted that he is in fact quite the accomplished singer-songwriter, and it is just as well that I decided to 'throw an eye’ and look at his myspace page. In short, what I found there was phenomenally intriguing because of how heartfelt it sounds. Insofar as an exemplary song, Nice To Meet You is hard to beat. Spangler emphasizes the significance of vocal harmonies in his music.

Despite his faith in humanity, love, and emotion, it is telling that Spangler’s album is thus entitled: Love Songs For No One. Should Spangler’s acoustic love songs one day be granted a subject, his songs will be worthy of any woman’s heart. Yet perhaps that is the message of this album. It is called Love Songs For No One; but somehow, one feels that they are love songs for everyone. Intricate melodies and finger picked tunes aside, Spangler’s song writing skills meander into the unknown; and, in spite of his assertion that 'fear of the unknown often overpowers the grass is greener allure’, he boldly jumps the fence into the unknown. - ultimate-guitar.com

"Can't Wait to Hear More!"

After several listens, I have to say that the only complaint I have with this album is that it is too short. These are great songs, Spangler has an amazing voice, and I'm ultimately left hoping that we get more albums from him in the near future. "Love Songs for No One" is not only an amazing debut, it's also the most apt titles I've seen in a long time. Soulful, expressive, and often downright cynical, these tracks are a blessing for anyone who likes to hear beautifully romantic music without the empty sap of a typical pop love song. - cdbaby.com

Bio

He was born by the river, in a little tent. No, wait, that was Sam Cooke. JT was born by a river; the Mississippi, to be exact. The Louisiana native was born in Baton Rouge and now resides in Los Angeles.

But that's not the important part of the story. The important part doesn't start until college, when he first picks up the guitar. And it really starts to get interesting when he writes his first song a few years later.

In a crowded singer-songwriter niche, Spangler stands out with catchy melodies and straightforward lyrics. His passion is the study of humanity and social interaction and his hope is that these songs will add perspective for anyone who's ever been in a relationship (good, bad, or other).
