Standing On The Sun

Written By: JT Stover

I rose uneasy with the dawn
Background noise is breaking through
If the world was counting on me
I don’t know what I’d do

I hear tales of natural beauty
That I can’t see from my back door
She’s talking to herself I guess
I can’t hear her anymore

I’m moving in and endless circle
The clock is spinning like a top
I thought I heard the vinyl cracklin’
My dreams slow down but never stop

I walked up the steps of freedom
Smoke rising from the ground
I feel like I’m standing on the sun
Watching the world go down

I’ve crawled through pastures of plenty
Where the spirits been disgraced
On the trail of forgotten heroes
Who’s footsteps can’t be traced

My mind spins what my heart speaks
With untamed notes and painted rhymes
But this ain’t no time for poetry
These are dark and dangerous times

Outside the crowd is gathering
The snow is beginning to fall
You took the words right out of my mouth
Now they make no sense at all

The very last of God’s good men
Have been captured gagged and bound
I feel like I’m standing on the sun
Watching the world go down

We know the truth we can’t turn back
Tomorrow’s here yesterday is gone
There’s not much waiting on either side
Of whatever road you’re on

Life’s rewards are collecting dust
In boxes and on shelves
There’s plenty more where that came from
Is what we told ourselves

I see the shore on a distant sea
We’re walking the moonlit beach
Where love is true for eternity
Where the devil’s hand can not reach

I’m looking out my window
But there’s no one around
I feel like I’m standing on the sun
Watching the world go down
