Juan Alvarez

Puro Corazon!. That is all Juan needs to transport listeners through endless stories and feelings. From Gipsy Kings to Marco Antonio Solis to Jose Alfredo Jimenez to Buena Vista Social Club to Willie Nelson and back, Juan Alvarez has found the essence of these songs and has made them his to share.

Juan Alvarez, es un cantate de la musica acustica de Latino America. You will hear him say, “I know all the songs in the world except 30 or 40” as he records live every Friday at Rojas Restaurante Mexicano. Juan began singing ten years ago on the chicken buses en la ciudad de Leon Guanajato. He has played in a variety of venues: PCC (Star-Spangled Banner Vocalist); the nightclubs of Guanajato; the International Fair en Leon; and in Risaralda, Central Colombia (one of the coffee states and the birthplace of his father). Juan thoroughly enjoys playing and singing “la musica que viene de las raizes de mis padres” that he heard growing up as a young boy. “Listening to tangos in South America as my grandfather played dominoes and listening to the local music while visiting the Jose Alfredo Jimenez Commemorative Plaza en Dolores Hidalgo created a deep appreciation and passion for the music of my ancestors.
In 1996, he arrived in Pueblo where he was received by a warm, friendly community. “It is this beautiful community which I appreciate most of all for its encouragement and opportunities to express my art. I am honored to meet people like me…people of two cultures and two languages.” Through the networking and sponsorship of Victor Rojas, Juan is currently recording a CD of original compositions and traditional Latin songs. His passion for this art exhibits itself in his deep, sonorous voice as he belts out his bilingual renditions every Friday evening and Sunday afternoons at Rojas Restaurante Mexicano.
