Juan Andrés Ospina was born in Bogota, Colombia, where he started his musical studies at an early age. Finishing high school he moved to Barcelona (Spain), where for five years he studied classical music at the Conservatoire and jazz at the Taller de Musics. He also continuously performed at the most well known jazz clubs in Barcelona, and represented the Taller de Musics at the 14th IASJ Annual Meeting held in Freiburg (Germany).

Receiving a scholarship from Berklee College Of Music, he moved to Boston in September 2005, where studied with Danilo Perez, Maria Schneider, Oscar Stagnaro, Greg Hopkins and Dave Samuels amongst many others. He received the “Jazz Performance Award” and the prestigious “Herb Pomeroy Award” for outstanding composition and arrangements. His music has been played by many orchestras, including the Greg Hopkins Big Band and the internationally acclaimed Finnish UMO Jazz Orchestra. He worked as an arranger for the 2007 Latin Grammys ceremony “Life Achievement Awards,” and he has played and arranged for a great number of recognized musicians in the New York and Boston Area.

Juan graduated with honors (Summa Cum Laude) with a degree in Jazz Composition and Performance from Berklee College of Music, December 2007. In April 2010 he played at the Lincoln Center (New York) for a tribute to the great Latin Singer Mercedes Sosa; and will be touring Europe with his music in the summer.
