house of glass

Written By: judy k vogelsang

well i'm sitting on the back porch
and it's the fourth now of july
i'm listening to the crickets chirp
and counting fireflies

i'm seriously considering
calling soon on you
i'm wondering what would happen to me
if a laid my eyes on you

the river rolls by calmly
and the moon hangs from the sky
there's just one mountain now between us
in a space that won't subside

i'm thinking of hiking over to you
or drifting by in my raft
and if you'd row your boat beside me
we could anchor our regrets

i'm aching just to talk to you
and i'm thinking about our past
you know i should be over you
but you're a ghost in my house of glass

come on throw the first stone
break this house of glass
shatter these illusions
free me from the past

gonna be wrong

Written By: judy k vogelsang

well i'm a sharp eyed eagle
lookin down from my nest
i'm a soft-hearted sparrow
with a pain in my chest

if i didn't speak out
you know i'd feel remiss
so here's my state of the
world address

from where i'm lookin
things don't seem so bad
well my life's pretty good
and i'm glad to have
the things i have

still the planet is hurtin
and her people are being abused
by some power hungry vultures
thinkin they got nothing to lose

but they're gonna be wrong
yeah they're gonna be wrong

you can't hold all the cards
expect other people to play
one hand under the table '
and the other holding justice at bay
this no win situation's been
goin on way too long
and the crumbs that they're throwin make 'em think well go along

but they're gonna be wrong
yeah they're gonna be wrong

cause i know wrong
and i know right
and i'm prepared to fight
the fight with anyone
who hurts the planet
puts her last
strangles her within their grasp
hurts her children
makes them cry or
tries to pull the wool
over these sharp eyes

three time loser

Written By: judy k vogelsang

three time loser
now you're livin all alone
you've either had a streak
of bad luck
or you've been doin
somethin wrong
if you want somebody to love you
better take yourself down
from that shelf
if you want someone to stick by you
quit gettin sidetracked
take a hard look at yourself

you have to admit it
you've been your own worst enemy
you took for granted
the things you should have
worked to keep
try again and this time play to win

three time loser
now you're headed down the road
you might think that
your misfortune
is the only one you hold
if you want, well you could fold up
or put it all up for high stakes
if you're smart
you'll start a new card game
shuffle all over
and watch those cards
already played

home on the range

Written By: judy k vogelsang

well comin home to oregon
on the amtrak train
in the middle of the winter
through the wyoming plains

well the day before a blizzard
left snow drifts on the tracks
which the sun was slowly melting
as the engines pushed them back

we came around a sharp bend
i could feel the brakes bear down
and i saw a herd of buffalo
layin on the frozen ground

and the people that we're ridin
all got to one side of the car
and everything fell silent
as the shooting of a star

and i really did see the deer
and the antelope play
and not a discouraging word
was heard
and the sky wasn't cloudy that day
and it sure felt good
to be home on the...........

well in that frozen moment
i slipped into another time
and the train was belchin coal smoke
cut the telegraph line
and up upon the ridge
i saw a band of shoshone
snakin through the grass
just as tall as their ponies

and i really did see the deer.....
.......and it sure felt good to be
home on the range.

empty room

Written By: judy k vogelsang

i opened up the door
and entered empty rooms
where once our lives entwined
where your many flowers bloomed
upon the window seat
in the last light of the day
i saw an opened book
your writing on the page

i am a part of you, it said
you are a part of me
until the end of time
no matter where my life
no matter where your life
may lead

i know the pain i've caused
i know my cruelty
you said i suffered for your
lack of clarity
i'm learning how to love
you've gained your certainty
you gave a part to hold
and i, gave a part to release

still i am a part of you
and you're a part of me
until the end of time
no matter where my life
no matter where your life may lead

and the sorrow that remains
is that our destinies
collided innocence with immaturity
knowing what was unknown then
still the part that i grieve
is that i tore your heart from me

no matter if we speak
no matter if i hear your name
no matter if we meet
no matter if we but remain
a writing on a page
in an empty room
you are a part of me, and
i am a part of you

in an empty room
you are a part of me
i am a part of you

Gonna Be Wrong

Well I'm a sharp eyed eagle looking down from my nest
