Bio
DC-launched bedroom producer and songwriter, Jukia (pronounced JOOK-ya) turned to electronic production to manifest her lyrics after diving into the house music scenes in Paris and NYC. A songwriter since childhood and a musical theatre kid at heart, Jukia channels a unique and dark theatrical energy into a self-proclaimed 'electro gloompop.'
After studying various art forms from theatre, voice, to visual media and electronic production, Jukia has been behind the scenes developing her personal style as an artist while lending her voice to other producers and songwriters. On April 24, Jukia will independently release her debut single ‘Bullet,’ while amping up for post-virus summer performances in East Coast cities.
Inspired by a hodgepodge of genres from electropop queens (Marina, ABRA, Angèle, and Tove Lo), to the more hip-hop oriented creations of Lolo Zouaï, Anderson Paak, and Tanerélle, down to psychedelic and alternative species (Glass Animals, Kevin Parker, Phantogram) and 80s new wave (The Smiths, The Cars, The Cure, Depeche Mode), Jukia is spinning the tables of pop to reveal a charming, atmospheric electronic sound coupled by a unique, emotional vocal style and haunting verse.
Jukia comes from unassuming beginnings, writing and recording with a Wii Rockband mic in her childhood bedroom, and she sets the stage for a new wave of self-made, hands-on artists who have a finger dipped in every rung of creation - from writing, composition, and production, to the visuals, storytelling, and outreach.
