Julie Houtz- Jules Jams

BandFolk

I am a singer/songwriter with rhythmically heavy lyrics that draw on my personal experiences. My writing style is influenced by free verse poetry.

Biography

I am a solo act currently with music that would easily fit with a full band arrangement if the opportunity presented itself. My influences include Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, Incubus, Counting Crows, Blues Traveler, Fleetwood Mac, Tracy Chapman and the Beatles just to name a few.

I've always been interested in music and have always known it was my niche in this life. I was classically trained on french horn for five years after learning flute for four. When I was young, long before I picked up a guitar or sang a note, I enjoyed writing free verse poetry as a way to express the thoughts going on inside my growing mind.

As you read these short blurbs, you'll notice that my press kit may not be as polished or produced as some others out there, but I feel I have a good raw product, ready for molding and polishing. I didn't think it was realistic to finalize a product that isn't even "out" yet, that's where you come in!

Lyrics

Page to Black

Written By: Julie Houtz

"...page starts white, clean... I turn it to black"

I turn the page to black,
mourning for a soul
that won't look back.
While another sees me
fast approaching down his path.

So I write these lines,
while I bide my time.
It'll all be fine you say, I know,
It'll all be OK in it's own time.

Won't you read my page,
all black and blue
and scarred from you,
yet bright with
the love I hope shines through.

So I write these lines,
while I bide my time.
It'll all be fine you say, I know,
It'll all be OK in it's own time.

The page is turning still,
while I wait for the call
I know will come, IT WILL..
while I count my planned defeats
I've had my fill...

So I write these lines,
while I bide my time.
It'll all be fine you say, I know,
It'll all be OK in it's own time...

In it's own time...

So for now I sing these lines
I write to you,
While I bide my time
I'll pass on the truth,
it'll all be OK, it'll all be OK...
In it's own time...

In it's own time,
In it's own time, time, time...

In it's own!

Twenty After Eight

Written By: Julie Houtz

"How can I still try?"
She cries, cries, cries.
"I can't look it in the eye"
She cries, cries, cries.

I don't really know
what to do or how to be.
I feel like I've just lost control
of every single part of me that
I knew, that I thought was sure.
I'm sick of livin' in this life,
so alone and so unpure.

How can I still try?
My broken heart can't bear it,
So I keep on coastin' by.

"But I'm not satisfied."
She cried, cried, cried.
"I can't look it in the eye"
She cried, cried, cried.

Somethin's burnin' in my brain
I wish I could ignore.
Tired heart and lonely mind,
Hard to know all that's in store.
How can I change my life?
Only want to be the best
parts of what I've found inside.

How can I still try?
My lonely heart can't bear it
So I keep on coastin' by.

"But I'm not satisifed!"
She cried, cried, cried.
"I can't look this in the eye,"
She cried, cried, cried.

I don't really know
how to, as they say,
"keep on keepin' on"
I wanna blow all of this hurt away.
Here I lay, 20 after eight,
really only wanna sleep,
livin' life in misery.

How can I still try?
My lonely hearts got to bear it
then I'll be floatin' by.

"I'm not satisfied!"
I cried, cried, cried.
"I gotta look this in the eye,"
I cried, cried, cried.

"I'm not satisfied"
she cries, cries, cries,
"I gotta look this in the eye,
I gotta try, I gotta try,"
she cries, cries, cries.
"'Cuz I'm not satisfied,"
I cried, cried, cried.
I'm not satisfied,
GOT to try, GOT to try.
