About Julie Black:

Based in Florida, Julie Black's roots extend into Illinois & California. Her musical taste was defined early in life, when she fell in love with Solomon Burke's 45; Cry to Me. Based in the blues, early influences like Solomon Burke, Etta James, Nina Simone & Junior Wells continue to flavor her sound today.  The emotional intensity of these icons can be felt in the music Julie creates.

Julie Blacks debut release, Call Me Angel for Blues, was issued in 2007 by BOJA Records, the independent label of music veteran Bob Langford (Deep Purple, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Joe South). . The all original album climbed up the charts, including those at XM Sirius Satellite Radio, and was also named one of the Top 5 Contemporary Blues Albums of the Year by Blues Critic Radio.

Julie released another successful album "You Just Might Win" in 2010, again featuring all original material. Glowing reviews poured in, critics and fans connected strongly with Julies songwriting and musical style, pushing the album into the Top 10 at B.B. Kings' Bluesville on XM Sirius.

Released late 2012 , Come On In This House, the first single of Julie Blacks digital release project put a spine-tingling spin on the well-known blues classic. Demanded by blues lovers, the song expanded upon the influences of soulfully charged Blues influences like; Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Elmore James, & Koko Taylor and was received with open arms.

Committed to originality and the artistic process; Julie Black explores many creative possibilities. In addition to performing with her own band, she writes & co-writes songs for/with other performers, is part of a free-form  music looping duo, and is a visual artist as well (sculpture, painting & mixed media). Black is currently working on album three.  She has just reached the final stages of recording fourteen incredible tunes with BOJA Records and a release date is being set for the new album titled Follow the Muse.

Feelin' Strange

Written By: Julie Black

You know how to drive a woman insane
And I don’t even know your name
But when you dance so close
Man you get me feelin’ strange.

I like the way that you take control
Make me feel like I’m in your flow
I dig your tender touch
And the way you move in nice and slow

You know how to treat a lady
The way she oughtta be
You just keep your game on smooth
I might take you home with me

Your eyes flood me with heat
You move in time with every beat
Oh the way you dance,
weaves clouds beneath my feet.

I bend to your command
There’s a fire in your strong hands
You got me thinkin’ things
my mind can’t hardly stand

You know how to treat a lady
The way she oughtta be
You just keep your game on smooth
I might take you home with me

INSTRUMENTAL

You know how to drive a woman insane
And I don’t even know your name
But when you dance so close
Man you get me feelin’ strange
When you dance so close
Man you get me feelin’ strange
The way you dance so close
Man you get me feelin’ strange.

Truth Is

Written By: Julie Black

Truth is maybe, I never stopped breakin’

The heart that you’d stolen was never returned

I’ve lived my life clumsy, lived most of it lonely

I know I’m not the only heart to get burned

Still I can’t erase all of my mistakes

And I can’t escape my mind

Truth is its cold, the streets they get old

When you’re walkin’ them every hour of the day

And a lifetime of whispers screams like a train

til I’d do anything to take them away

No I can’t erase all of life’s tough breaks

And I can’t escape my mind

After all of this time

Truth is baby, it’s hard to find peace

when you’re livin’ and breathin’ the eye of the storm

and the chaos around you doesn’t seem to astound you

cause a series of let downs becomes the norm

No I can’t erase, every choice I’ve made

& I can’t escape my mind

After all of this time

Love Her Anyway

Written By: Julie Black

SHE WALKS INTO THE ROOM, LIKE AN ELEGANT ILLUSION
YOU’RE CAPTIVATED AT FIRST GLANCE
THE FRAGRANCE IN THE AIR, WELL IT FILLS YOU WITH CONFUSION
AND YOU WONDER IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE…

SHE TAKES WHAT SHE WANTS
SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS
AND YOU KNOW THAT SHE DOESN’T OBEY, NO
BUT YOU’LL LOVE HER, YOU’RE GONNA LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY

YOU MEMORIZE EACH CURVE, SHE’S A VISION OF TEMPTATION
AND YOU WONDER IF SHE SENSES YOU ARE THERE
PATIENTLY YOU WAIT, HOPING FOR AN INVITATION
AS SHE GENTLY TOSSES BACK HER HAIR

SHE TAKES WHAT SHE WANTS
SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS
AND YOU KNOW THAT SHE DOESN’T OBEY, NO
BUT YOU’LL LOVE HER, YOU’RE GONNA LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY

WOULDN’T IT BE NICE IF SHE WOULD NOTICE THAT YOU’RE THERE
IF SHE’D TALK A LITTLE WHILE, MAYBE LOOK AT YOU AND SMILE
HOPING THAT SOMEHOW SHE WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU’RE THERE
IS YOUR HUNGER TELLING LIES? DID SHE LOOK INTO YOUR EYES?

WANT IS DRIVING YOU MAD, SHE’S A ONE MAN EXECUTION
SUCH INTOXICATING POWER IN HER CHARM
HER MOVEMENTS MAKE YOU RACE, SHE’S A BEAUTIFUL CREATION
YOU’D DO ANYTHING JUST TO HOLD HER IN YOUR ARMS

SHE TAKES WHAT SHE WANTS
SHE GETS WHAT SHE WANTS
AND YOU KNOW THAT SHE DOESN’T OBEY, NO
BUT YOU’LL LOVE HER, YOU’RE GONNA LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY
YOU’LL LOVE HER ANYWAY

YOU’RE GONNA LOVE HER ANYWAY

Shout It

Written By: Julie Black

Baby I…think there’s no doubt about it
Darlin’ I…can’t fight my way around it no
Oh I…so glad that I found it
Your lovin’ so good….I want to shout it hey

So tired livin’ at a breakneck pace
I need to relax…want to relate
There’s no need baby for us to debate
I just want to make love.

They say early to bed, early to rise
The smile on your face, the look in your eyes
Tells me you can sympathize
So let’s get it on.

Baby I…think there’s no doubt about it
Darlin’ I…can’t fight my way around it no
Oh I…so glad that I found it
Your lovin’ so good….I want to shout it hey

I want to shout it… I want to shout it…
You lovin’s so good… I want to shout it yeah.

Baby I…think there’s no doubt about it
Darlin’ I…can’t fight my way around it no
Oh I…so glad that I found it
Your lovin’ so good….I want to shout it hey

I want to shout it…
I want to shout it…
You lovin’s so good… I want to shout it yeah.
I want to shout it…
I want to shout it…
You lovin’s so good… I want to shout it yeah.

She Used to Be Mine

Written By: Julie Black

When she cries, she cries like no ones listenin’
When she hurts, she hurts like the first time
Oh when she calls out in the dark, man it’s gonna break your heart
I remember ‘cause she used to be mine

Every day I loved that woman …….was a day I let her down
She tried so hard to love me, man I was the..…coldest cat in town
I’m a fool, I see that now, this burden I must bear
Lesson learned, world upturned, the truth is mine to share

When she cries, she cries like no ones listenin’
When she hurts, she hurts like the first time
Oh when she calls out in the dark, man it’s gonna break your heart
I remember ‘cause she used to be mine

Brother listen to me..… learn from my mistakes
Don’t treat that woman badly, you don’t…….want to watch her break
Heaven sends us angels man, she’s the best I’ve ever known
Listen please don’t be like me, you end up all alone

When she cries, she cries like no ones listenin’
When she hurts, she hurts like the first time
Oh when she calls out in the dark, man it’s gonna break your heart
I remember ‘cause she used to be mine

You Just Might Win

Written By: Julie Black

You slip your hands
Under my coat
feel the heat of your breath
And your kiss on my throat
I cannot deny
That i long to be close
But i try to resist
I try to resist

But i think you might
I think you just might win

I try to conceal
The sound of my sighs
but you make me feel like there’s a
Fire is raging inside
I cannot deny
That i long to be close
But i try to resist
I try to resist

But i think you might
I think you just might win

You’re really extraordinary
It’s funny how we met
I don’t ever.. Think i’ve met anyone quite like you

You want me to
Give into your charms
I must admit
it feels so damn good in your arms
I cannot deny
That i long to be close
But i try to resist
I try to resist

But I think you might
I think you just might win

I think you just might win
