"Ottawa XPress"

“In Beyond, this singer and pianist directs wonderful soundscapes and great selection
of local musicians. Hers is an ethnically diverse kind of music that would work well as
a soundtrack – a Merchant Ivory kind of film, set at the foot of the Taj Mahal…”
- John Lyttle

"Nelson Street News"

The result, far from seeming cluttered or over produced, is an album of subtle
variations on a theme – a series of stylistic and cultural lenses through which Julie’s
contemporary, folk-inflected songs are filtered.”
- Peter Webb

"Capital XTRA"

“Beyond is a unique collection of worldbeat rhythms and melodies, instrumentation
ranges from Middle Eastern, East Indian to Australia and back. Her vocals are quite
literally stunning…”
- 2001

"Ottawa XPress"

“An excellent pianist, one side of Larocque is the kind of expressive player and beautifully rich singer that can easily rival her influences... In addition to being a diverse musical talent, Larocque is a multi-dimensional event organizer, staging approximately 3 shows of mixed media each year.”
- Stephen Flood

Bio

“When I first heard the song “Descartes” by Julie Larocque, I was instantly hooked. It's difficult to combine imagination, originality and a great voice...Observatory accomplishes just that! The world needs to know who Julie Larocque is.”

(Songs "Descartes", "Virginia" and "Cold Snap" are in regular rotation.)

That's the kind of reaction every musician wants to receive when they send their music to A/C and Dance radio stations. Julie Larocque's 3rd album Observatory was a recipient of the Popular Music Grant from the Ontario Arts Council, and has been generating rave reviews from critics and colleagues. Produced by Jason Jaknunas (Souljazz Orchestra, Eric Vieweg, Jupiter Ray Project) at Metropolitan Studios in Ottawa, Observatory is a 10-song collection of Electronica music with subtle flavours of World and Jazz vibes.

Julie is well-known throughout the Valley as the afternoon drive time host on MYFM Radio (www.myfmradio.ca). Julie graduated in 1998 from Ryerson Polytechnic University with a BAA in Radio & Television Arts, and she is currently developing a television series called Ottawa Valley Woman for COGECO.
