Bio
Julie Montgomery is poised for a spectacular career as singer/songwriter in the great classic tradition. Her distinctive style has been molded by exposure to Ella and Sarah, Betty Carter, Nina Simone and Dianne Reeves. Her natural gifts were evident at an early age, singing at home and in church at age five in her native Cincinnati. Time spent at Wright State University added drama training to her musical accomplishments, and she was soon working in cabaret and dinner theatre, culminating in two years of tremendous growth, honing the demanding skills of performer/improviser with the ensemble Streetmosphere at Disney/MGM Studios in Orlando.
Julies introduction into the world of Top 40 bands began with a two year gig as lead vocalist for the house band at Orlandos Twin Towers, followed by a run at the Vegas Hilton and Flamingo with Maiden America, and all-female band, and Fair Warning, playing the Hard Rock Café circuit in Mexico.
In Puerto Vallarta, on the spectacular west coast of Mexico she found players who enabled her to establish herself in the jazz idiom, which is her natural calling, as vocalist in the acclaimed group Hielo Negro (Black Ice). She worked in Mexico and Los Angeles before crossing back to Florida.
North Florida presented Julie with the opportunity to put together and front jazz quartets and quintets with some of the areas finest talents, as well as perform under the direction of Tod Booth at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre. Most importantly, she worked with a group of unbelievably talented musicians and recorded with them as APT.407. They breathed life into her original lyrics and melodies.
Julie moved to New York where she auditioned, sat in on open mics, and performed at the infamous Blue Note. She found her next gig with Mamajuana, a meringue band based in the Dominican Republic. Julie recorded and performed with them and shot a video as they signed a deal with Sony/Latin. Julie toured Japan 3 times in 2003 and 2004, performing gospel songs for wedding ceremonies, and pop, jazz and R&B for receptions and private parties. In the fall of 2005, Julie performed in Busan, South Korea, at the 5 star Paradise Hotel in Charlies Bar. Most recently, Julie has been performing in the US with the jazz group 8th Street Trio and the pop group 12th & Midnight.
A true professional, Julie is an experienced international performer who brings charisma and energy to all of her shows.
