Bio

Julien Mier was raised –unlike his French name suggests– in Eindhoven, with quite the musical cultivation we might say. A logical step –after being clasically educated– seemed to step into the glitchy digital realm of experimental electronic music.
The young Dutchman only recently graduated in Composition and Music Production at the Utrecht School of the Arts –learning about subjects like synthese, algorithms, programming environments like Max MSP, classical compositions and Adaptive Systems, to name just a few.

More than five years after his first release with more than 6 EP's on his name and steadily gaining momentum; the trilingual musician now seems on the verge of reaching a new level within the international music scene. But one might state that with releases on Italian, Canadian, Belgian, Latvian, Dutch and Japanese imprints with gigs al around Europe, Mier already seems immersed in the global musical spectrum.

His musical signature is a genre-crossing approach of fragmented melodies packed in a palette of –sometimes almost futuristic– waterfall kind of textures passing by like a dreamy and melancholic story.

A hint to how this vague journey listeners might experience in his music came to existence might be a lifelong experience with lucid dreaming. When asked about this aspect, the trumpet of a death march comes to his mind… a concrete thought that quickly steers wildly out of context.

Apart from an inner, spiritual influence, when asked about his direct influences Julien says: "I get inspiration of the sea, as I grew up in a town on the dunes, water has always been something inspirational for me... how it moves and changes, all the time... never appears in the same form... but always will be called water."

His music also hints at the infinitely repeating patterns of waves, hitting the shore. The hypnotizing, pulsing expansions and contractions of a sea. tmospheres of a crisp rainy view from a cliff over a wild grey and white chaos, of a mellow red glow, casting its gleam over a calm ocean.
