"Impressive Sound"

"[Julie] caught my attention right away and never let it go. While I was doing live sound engineering, I did something I normally never do... I sat and REALLY listened to this performer rather than just mix the sound. Great, clear voice. Dynamic rhythm guitar playing and songs that kept me listening. A performer to watch out for." - Karen Kane, Sound Technician, Michigan Womyn's Fest

"Tapestry of Song"

"Watching Julie Schurr take to a stage is a beautiful thing. She is a performer whose simplicity is key to her success. She doesn't do any covers, and that adds to a mystique for her crowd. They are all in on the secret, you see. This emotional, funny woman is telling stories with her music and words; and people are lining up to hear her do it. It's a folk-art tapestry of song that weaves emotionally through the audience. And, most importantly, [Julie Schurr] can SING." - Tomas Long -- EXP Magazine

"Contagious Vibe"

"Julie writes experience. Her songs are surprisingly honest and emotional, and although they are incredibly personal, her charisma is that of a good storyteller. She sucks you in with unlikely metaphors and imaginatively creates vibrant imagery that appeals directly to the senses... her unique voice and her unabashed writing come together seamlessly to create a contagious vibe that easily rubs off on everyone in the room... She is very real. - Nestor Wheelock, The Vital Voice

"Local Phenomenon"

"Julie Schurr is a local phenomenon who can be compared to no other. She puts her heart on her sleeve for everyone to see... If forced to make a comparison, Julie has the desperation of Trent Reznor, a voice sweeter than Jewel's, and lyrics as meaningful as Tracy Chapman's. Her lyrics are subtly powerful; her messages sneak up on you when you least expect it. She begs you to cry with her, than laughs with you at the futility of it all. The only way to really experience the depth Julie has to offer is to attend one of her shows." - APOP Records, "Apocolypse Culture"

"Open Invitation"

Julie Schurr's music not only captivates but entices her audience to come back wanting more. It's a guaranteed standing-room only performance every time. Julie has an open invitation to come back and play any time she's available. - Tanya Brown -- Manager, Spot Bar St. Louis

Bio

-----Nitty Gritty Bio-----

Julie Schurr has over 10 years of performance experience, entertaining audiences from South Florida to Northern Michigan and everywhere in between. Since graduating from college in 2006, Julie has been touring full time, rapidly adding to her fan base throughout the U.S. and playing numerous Pride festivals, HRC events, and NCLR fundraisers, etc. She was honored by being an in-studio guest on Sirius OutQ's "Derek and Romaine" show, featured in Curvemag.com, and also appeared in the Advocate, Cherry Grrl Mag, and Indie-Music.com.

----The Extended Release Bio---

Growing up, Julie Schurr never heard music that
might have made life a little easier for a lesbian
being raised in the strictly-proscribed constraints of
a religiously conservative community and home. In
fact, she wasn't supposed to be listening to music at all. She wasn't supposed to know what a lesbian was...let alone BE one. Thankfully, Julie survived her childhood and eventually escaped by running off to a heathen college for some higher education. Fully committed to exploring the new landscape as she worked her way through college, Julie encountered "lesbian music" for the first time. And after a while, Julie realized that yes, the music she was listening to finally used the right pronouns, but it still wasn't very reflective of her own life. Most of it was just a little too polished, a little too whitewashed, a little too...nice. Ugh.

Julie has never been one to shy away from a challenge. If she couldn't find the lesbian musical equivalent of gritty street journalism nicely packaged on the music store shelves, she would
have to create it herself. Julie Schurr bought a guitar, taught herself how to play, and drew from a
deep bag of creative writing tricks to wrestle twenty years' worth of memoir into critically-insightful yet personable sound bytes of song. With all the right pronouns, of course. An original creation, Julie Schurr's fusion of musical styling and technique is all her own: she calls it "indierockbitchfolk." She's been showcasing it to audiences across the country and winning loyal fans.

Now that she's finished her degree & produced a full-length album she just can't imagine any other career path. So it's a good thing that album sales are steadily rising and venues keep opening their doors to her.

In 2008, track down Julie Schurr on the open road, touring the U.S. to promote her first album. She is currently working on her sophomore release and planning for the 2009 tour.
