Jumping Ship is a pop punk band from Normal, Illinois. Their songs depicting heartbreak, anxiety, and personal growth, while maintaining the details that made the genre so catchy and important to many growing up.
Their single, Burning Branches, is a good example of just this. the song talks about that moment when one realizes they are unhappy in the spot they currently are in life, and making that mental decision to make a change. While writing about such a personal and emotionally revealing topic, the band manages to tackle this theme while maintaining that factor that makes you want to sing along and dance a little in the seat of your car.
Though "Pop Punk band from Chicago" is quickly becoming the most played out trope in the genre, there is something about Jumping Ship that makes them stand out.
