Bio

June Evans & Mercy City is without a doubt one of the most authentic and soulful blues and R&B bands to develop on the East Coast in many years. Fronted by June Evans, a genuine Baptist preacher’s daughter, this band packs a wall of sound which is thrilling ever growing crowds from Atlantic City and Philadelphia, from Washington DC to New York State.

June Evans began her singing career at the age of two, singing the gospel in her father’s church. June later joined the church choir when for over 20 years she stirred the souls of all the faithful. In her mid-twenties, June and her father made the decision to let her chase her dream and devote herself to singing the blues full time. In her original song, “Born to Sing the Blues," June sings, “My soul felt happy and my spirit felt renewed, when I finally realized I was born to sing the blues.” While many blues publications and writers have compared June to Etta James and Shameka Copeland, June’s biggest influence and heroine has always been Aretha Franklin.

As songwriters, June Evans and Mercy City have written and recorded over 20 original blues songs. While writing recording and performing their original material is the band’s primary focus, constant gigging up and down the East Coast, June Evans & Mercy City have mastered the blues standards and R&B classics. June Evans & Mercy City are currently booked at several outdoor Blues festivals including the upcoming 2006 Scranton – Wilkes Barre Blues festival. June Evans is certainly a rising star amongst the small world of true blues divas.
