Bio

The daunting dedication to find your place in this world and create your own fate is hard enough for one, let alone five, together. Members of Junkie and the Spider have resiliently defied all obstacles in their way over the last five years. The group of 5 continue to carve their own destiny and refuse to let anyone or anything deter their mission of making a life long career in music. The highly anticipated debut EP, Never Did Mind About The Little Things back in 2010, produced by award winning Jason Jaknunas, was a dynamic opus that proves this band was and IS well beyond the mark.

The Ottawa based alternative rock group started their journey in the bachelor apartment of Scott Cranham (drums), back in 2007. Tj, Doug and Cranham, after a few months of writing and playing, quickly realized music was something they needed to pursue together. They needed a leader! -ENTER- Francis O'Keefe (guitars). O'keefe not only completed the sound , but brought it to life. After many months of seeking a bass player with the calibre of O'keefe, Dave Daley undoubtedly completed the line up and Junkie and the Spider was set. The group wrote 6 songs and headed for the studio to record their first EP,Never Did Mind The Little Things. The tracks garnered overwhelmingly positive responses on their MySpace page and the word started to spread. CD's started selling. Junkie's material caught the attention of certain majestic industry people. At the same time, airwaves were singing Junkie's praise on 106.9fm The Bear, LiVe88.5 and 6 other popular stations simultaneously. Eyes and ears were on Junkie; projecting them into a whole new way of thinking, writing and playing.

Thanks to loyal fans, friends and industry peeps, Junkie and the Spider quickly became one of the most talked about artists within their music scene, due to not only the intense radio play from Ottawa all the way to Afganistan and a first place regional win in the Radiostar National Songwriting Competition, but an irrevocable persona this band has brought to the stage. The depth and diversity of Junkie's music coupled with the invigorating fire filled vocal melodies of Vandervelden is no doubt the reason this groups buzz has never fallen silent. Even after a two year split from front woman TJ Vandervelden due to health reasons, this bands status, reputation, fan base as well as sales through iTunes and other mediums kept thriving. It was inevitable this band would return. Stronger than ever before.
