"Powerage relaunch as Jupiter menace"

Powerage relaunch as Jupiter Menace

A change of line-up in July this year forced Maitland
brothers Ben and Zac Crawford to reassess their rock band Powerage.

With fellow members Jeremy and Nikk Minett leaving the group to pursue other interests, the Crawford brothers took the opportunity to change the band’s name and introduce fresh blood.

“Changing the name was something we have been talking about for a few years now and with the whole line-up change and the way our music has been evolving, we thought it was the right time to do it,” Ben Crawford said.

Now known as Jupiter Menace, the Crawfords welcome Mitchell Seigers, 19, on rhythm guitar and vocals and Ben Grimus, 18, on bass and vocals.

Even though Zac, 15, and Ben, 19, are still very young, with Powerage they have already supported Matchbox 20, Thirsty Merc, The Screaming Jets, Grinspoon, The Angels, Bluejuice, Frenzal Rhomb, Amy Meredith and Karnivool.

Jupiter Menace will lend their musical prowess to this Saturday’s Relay For Life charity event, which will raise money for Cancer Council.

“We can’t wait – we love supporting charities, in particular cancer, as it affects so many people and the event will also be a good opportunity for us to spread the word about our new name and for people to catch the new line-up,” Ben said.

The Crawford brothers have already had a busy year.

With Powerage they took out Australia’s largest band competition, Youthrock, as well as the gong for best school age band at the Music Oz Awards.

Crawford explained that there is more band activity in the pipeline.

“We’re releasing our EP titled Jupiter Menace, two video clips, touring here and hopefully overseas, and continuing to build our fan base,” Ben said.

Jupiter Menace will perform at Relay For Life on Saturday at Maitland Sportsground from 4pm till 4.40pm.

Bio

Jupiter Menace is a young rock band from Australia with the passion and persistence to take their music to the world. Brothers Ben and Zac make up the songwriting engine- and the results are rock songs that are compelling and convincing. The rhythm section consists of Mitch on guitar and Ben Grimas on bass. Ben and Zac often share vocals but it is Zac's powerful rock lead vocals which capture people's attention-especially from a 16 year old! Not only that, but he manages to play amazing lead guitar. Ben's performance on drums is both animated and accurate and keeps the energy of the band in sync.
Influenced by artists such as Led Zeppelin through to Paramore and The Foo Fighters, JUPITER MENACE's songs are catchy and captivating and the band's delivery is passionate and tight.
