Bio

Started in mid-2011, Jupiter Skyline originally consisted of guitarist Kelly Townsend and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Russel Boring. The two were heavily influenced by jam bands like Phish, The Grateful Dead, STS9, Lotus, and many others. The material written during this time reflects a desire for musical freedom, and is where the band began to find its' signature style. After writing a few songs and performing acoustic shows around the Spring/Woodlands area, the band added a drummer, Austin Burke. Embracing the jam band ideal fully, while maintaining very structured and eclectic songwriting, the band began to evolve into a more adventurous group whose live performances are as unpredictable as they are entertaining. One show might see Jupiter Skyline playing for an hour without any use of vocals, while another may feature a capella jams, guest rappers and singers, or a guest guitarist jamming on a cover with them. The band has been known to invite their many talented friends, whose numbers include talented Houston rappers Wayword and Feral The Earthworm, onstage for improvised renditions of their songs. What sets Jupiter Skyline apart from the mass of other local Houston artists is this; quite simply, nobody does what they do. Whether it be combining reggae/dub with metal, artfully blending funk and blues, or vamping on choral music arrangements, no other band approaches the unpredictability of Jupiter Skyline.
