Bio

The singer Jurga [yur-gah] successfully started her solo career by releasing debut album Aukso Pieva (Golden Field) back in 2005. The first single from the album Nebijok (Don't Be Afraid) charted at Number One for 8 weeks and became the biggest hit single in Lithuania of 2005 while the title track Aukso Pieva achieved similar radio success in 2006.

In the home market, where 5.000 copies means success, Jurga became the biggest selling music act! Aukso Pieva album has reached platinum sales (total sales 25.000 copies and still counting) and the follow-up album Instrukcija (2007) comes very close to platinum as well (with total sales 18.000 copies and counting and with the title track scoring another Number One).

While Jurga’s debut masterpiece Aukso Pieva has gained all possible awards in the home country (Best Debut, Best Song, Best Album, Best Female Artist, The Song of the Year, etc.), the follow-up album Instrukcija is marked with first success abroad and her videos received constant rotation on MTV Baltic.

In the year 2007 Jurga became Best Baltic Act in MTV European Music Awards in Munich, Germany and with her song 5th Season received Baltic Song Festival’s Grand Prix in Sweden. In 2008 Jurga’s hit single 5th Season has reached Number One spot in Hungary. In 2009 Jurga received two Just Plain Folks Music Awards in the US for Best European Song (Smelio Zmones - Sandman’s Child) and Best R&B Song (5th Season).

Charismatic and usually warm-welcomed by audience Jurga with her band has played more than 200 live concerts in Lithuania, US, Germany, Sweden, Latvia, Hungary, Slovenia and Afghanistan (she performed in NATO soldiers camp as well as for local audience and returned from there with the inspiring video (Sandman’s Child).

During her career Jurga has shared the stage with such names as Björk (2008, Lithuania), Sinead O’Connor (2009, Latvia), Gogol Bordello (2009, Lithuania), De Phazz (2009, Lithuania) and Peter Doherty (2009, Latvia).

October, 2009 was the release date of Jurga’s third album +37° (Goal of Science), which is semi Lithuanian/semi English. In her music Jurga combines pop-rock, electronica, alternative and sometimes folk elements. She is the new voice from Baltic you didn’t know that you might be expecting!
