Victoria BC's Justin Hewitt, an experienced singer-songwriter, has released his self-titled debut album. Filled with emotional stories of life lessons, Hewitt bears his soul & melts it into songs of life, love and the journey we take in each of them. Emotional, raw, and energetic are some of the feelings that come to heart when listening to Hewitt's music.
From the edgy and driven melodies in "Here We Are", "Deliver Me" and "In My Head" to the more subtle and softer approaches made on "Your Majesty", "For You", and "Long Ago"; it's evident that Hewitt has a passion for music. Produced by Joby Baker, whom also constructed Alex Cuba’s 2008 Juno Award winning record Agua Del Pozo, Justin Hewitt’s self-titled first solo release displays an intense, original and dynamic young artist with tremendous musicality.
With the album being recorded over the span of 2006 / 07, it features a collection of his strongest original compositions crafted during his past 7 years of gigging throughout Western Canada and internationally in the UK.
In 2006 Justin showcased at the Magdalene College Commemoration Ball where he found himself on the same bill as Pharrell Williams and the Body Rockers. Upon returning home to Victoria BC he was motivated by friends dbClifford (Sony recording artist) and Joby Baker to take his material into the studio under their guidance and mentorship. The record, Justin Hewitt, was released in November 2007.
Singer/songwriter Justin Hewitt's self-titled solo album takes the listener on a journey that is raw, honest, thoughtful and emotional. This debut effort proves Justin to be an intense, original and dynamic young artist with tremendous musicality. An up and coming artistic force with over 10 years of performing experience, Justin is already capturing international attention with his music.
Justin describes his first album as a self-portrait that draws from personal and life experiences. The songs in the album are a complex mosaic of commentaries of love, life and the intricacies of personal relationships. Justin's songs range from rhythmically driven and powerful (Deliver Me, In My Head) to slower more artistic, unique and melodic songs (For You, Close Your Eyes, Oh Susanna).
Most recently he was a finalist in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition, receiving an honourable mention for the track "Close Your Eyes", and Justin has been selected to perform at New Music West 2008 in Vancouver BC.
