"Serious Music Comes To Town"

“Joining Cary Hudson onstage at Fat O'Harry's is Sumrall's Justin Patterson and his band, the Lost Causes, who have shared stages with a variety of artists including Highway 101 and Mississippi's very own Shelly Fairchild.”

“the newest purveyors of country-rock in the vein of Gram Parsons and Jack Ingram.”
- Mik Davis, GM (WUSM Radio) - The Hub

"Justin Patterson & the Lost Causes Play It Country"

“Music for me started from the beginning,’ said Justin Patterson, a singer and songwriter from Sumrall, whose early musical influences came from his family and growing up in church.”

“The Lost Causes consist of Ashton Burge on electric guitar and backing vocals, John Reeder on bass guitar and Zak Tillotson on drums. ‘They are just a killer bunch of guys,’ Patterson said. ‘We all mesh pretty well as a ground, and they are all good players.”

“their desire is to make it one show at a time, one fan at a time, one CD at a time and one song at a time.”

“If we were doing this for the money we would have got real jobs,” Patterson said. “It (music is in our blood. We might as well take it to the people and see if they care.”

“I write best from personal experience,” Patterson said. “So I try to live life as much as I can.” - Lacey Walters, Country Reporter - Laurel Leader-Call

"Patterson Seeks Career In Playing And Singing Music"

“Lyrics, rhythm and genre are not the primary ingredients that make up a batch of good music; instead, the love and passion that the musician holds and shares for his music mix together to tempt the taste buds of listener’s ears. Does such passion and love exist in today’s musicians? On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Common Grounds coffee house was filled with the sounds of story-telling lyrics, up-beat rhythm and a unique genre. These three necessities were mixed with an obvious love for music on the face of Justin Patterson.”

“A little bit left-of-center country.”

“His writing reflects and copies while becoming his totally different, very own masterpiece.”

“The ‘grassroots approach’ to getting an album recorded and on the market.”

“Follows Texas country stars such as Pat Green and Jack Ingram, two of his favorites, by playing what he wants, for himself and his fans, and not worrying about the dollar at the end of the day, just the music”

“Such sincerity in playing and singing, true love of music, willingness to work hard and a desire to strive for greatness in the music industry is not found often. However, Patterson mixes a whole new batch of lyrics and melody for the perfect combination of ingredients to produce songs which have the taste of love and passion equaling that seen on Patterson’s face when he plays.”
- Joy Stodghill, Co-Lifestyles Editor - The Cobbler

"Justin Patterson & the Lost Causes make Tupelo debut"

"The more the merrier, or so they say – and that philosophy has worked out just fine for Justin Patterson & the Lost Causes. 'We’ve played Oxford before, but we’re really looking forward to playing a different town with different people,' Patterson said in a phone interview. Justin Patterson & the Lost Causes are making their Tupelo debut this weekend at Benjamin’s on Main."

"Patterson’s first record was straight-up country, but his work with the Lost Causes has more of a roots rock feel to it. 'We’re pretty much a rock ‘n’ roll band with a cowboy lead singer,' he said."

The Jackson-based band has toured quite a bit since forming. Staying on the road has helped form their new record, which the group hopes to release later this summer. 'We’ve seen what (songs) people dig and what they don’t, and that kind of takes you into a direction that the crowd enjoys,' he said. The record will reflect different styles of rootsy rock, he said. 'It’s very diverse, from really rocking to, we’ve got a waltz on the record. We put a waltz back to back with a rock song to really confuse people,' he said with a laugh."

"Whether it’s on a record or live, the Lost Causes is a band meant to make an impression. 'We’re pretty high intense country music,' Patterson said." - Sheena Barnett, scene writer - The Scene

Bio

Mississippi has a rich tradition of fostering artistic creativity and, for years, artists have mixed and matched genres and styles to achieve a sound that is uniquely their own.

None more so than Justin Patterson.

Based out of Jackson, smack dab in the middle of the state that has given birth to the blues, country and rock n’ roll, Justin has spent the better part of this past decade mastering the “gray area” between these genres.

Few people can give a definitive definition to the hybrid sound found on either of the Justin's self-financed independent releases, “Debut” (2006) and the more recent “Just Along for the Ride” (2008).

Some would call it twangy rock, others outlaw country.

Some might describe it simply as Americana.

No matter the label, one constant remains for this cowboy singer with a rock n’ roll band: an energetic live show that rivals any touring band on the road today.

Having already shared the stage with a diverse roster of artists, including Tracy Lawrence, The Randy Rogers Band, Sammy Kershaw, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Cary Hudson of Blue Mountain fame, Stoney LaRue & the Arsenals, Josh Gracin, Shelly Fairchild, Highway 101 and many others, Justin Patterson is branching out even further in 2011 bringing new music to new fans at music venues, festivals, fairs, and private events across the Southeast.

In describing his music, Patterson notes:

“If we played at a honky tonk, they would say we were too rock n’ roll.”

“If we played our style at a real hardcore rock club, they’d say we were too country.”

As an artist, Justin Patterson is fine with that, because blurring lines and blending genres is what he does best.
