Justin Taylor sent over his first official mixtape this past weekend, entitled The Prequel. I’ve tossed up a couple of posts on the site from this up and comer out of New Jersey, but it’s good to finally hear his first official release. He borrows some beats from indie bands like Ratatat and Empire of the Sun, hip hop moguls such as Jay and Kanye, and he also dabbles in producing his own. I’m really into his blend of singing and rapping; it works well for him and he definitely has some big things on the horizon. So the day is finally here. You can read my interview with Justin to gain a little more insight about him but if you don’t decide to read it I’ll fill you in a little here. He comes into the game creating his own footsteps in those of such artists as Kid Cudi and B.o.B where he can successfully integrate both good singing and good rapping into one collection. After listening to this project I have to say it is hands down enjoyable and something you should be looking forward to. It will be right here on March 6th for download.
This mixtape is his first real step in conquering grounds that a lot of rappers haven’t attempted to even go towards yet. The project has features from Ratatat, Empire Of The Sun, Nug and Tony Lavrenov. Justin Taylor is an entertainer residing in the Suburbia of Plainsboro, NJ. Taylor, 19 years old and attending Rutgers University, refuses to classify himself under a single category of music. With both lyrical ability, and a singing voice that he's had professionally trained since the age of 10, Justin has a fusion of talent that doesn't come along in the urban music industry very often. Taylor likes to use the word intrusive as a way to describe his music, saying that his aim is to connect with the listener lyrically, delving in to issues and situations that everyone is familiar with. With musical influences like the late great Michael Jackson, Talib Kweli, Tupac, the rock band "Band Of Horses", Kings Of Leon and A Tribe Called Quest, Justin is quite in tune with every genre in the music industry. Justin Taylor is an entertainer, singer, rapper and songwriter bringing his life to the songs that he creates. Whether it's an R&B chorus, a rap verse, a rock verse, it doesn't matter, Justin has dabbled in it. If the next generation of music is what you seek, you've found it.
